Obvs going forward I think it's madness to pursue economic upheaval of Brexit, but I thought that anyway, and I don't trust the govt to attempt some sort of restructuring with our biggest trade partners before pursuing their usual slogan based nonsense.
It sounds like the EU is a luxury we can no longer afford tbh. Totally agree that as members of the continent (rather than the union) we have joint interests though. Probably time for all to abandon the frivolous federal project for the greater good.

Until the bill arrives to prop up the failing economies. If Germany and France fancy bailing out the rest (again) after covid while trying to put their own economies back together good luck to them. The EU have been very quick to suggest ways in which we can all become indebted to Brussels though, by 'deferring' payments of our own money to them in return for promising much larger payments over the next 7 years - pigs in a trough. Hopefully we are out before then - the 'net contributor' thing is not good at the best of times and is about to get a lot worse. I agree with you though that the overall uselesness of the EU during the covid crisis does somewhat lay to rest fears of some monolithic superstate.You seem not to have noticed but the current crisis demonstrated there is no Federal project. The EU is only as federal as the member states wish it to be which as it turned out was not very much.

I'm not sure EU membership would have any bearing on Windrush unless my geography is a a little off.The Windrush victims would disagree. And they weren’t even illegals.
Once this is over we will no doubt be picking up where we left off and trashing immigrants and foreigners again.

The EU is a trade bloc and that is its sole competence. It also provides a framework through which member states can cooperate on other matters if the member states choose to use it. If they decline then there is nothing the EU can do about it.
Germany, France and others will provide financial assistance, as well as receive support themselves via the ECB, because it is in their interests to do so. Eventually EU states will have to provide support to non EU nations that border the EU because a virus doesn’t respect borders and their is no point in getting your own virus response right if your neighbours are melting under the strain. Turkey being a case in point.
Right now though I would worry more about how the UK is going to fare and how we are going to exit the lockdown. Blind EU hate is no longer a self indulgent luxury we can afford.

We haven't left yet, and all this reveals is that British workers can't be found to do back breaking labour in fields for minimum wage but workers from poorer parts of the EU can be exploited.we leave and now this - bound to boil some piss but completely exposes the idea that British workers can be found to do these jobs
