Easing the coronavirus lockdown too quickly could lead to a second peak in the outbreak, Downing Street has said.

Asked about reports that Prime Minister Boris Johnson favours a cautious approach to lifting restrictions, his spokesman said: "The big concern is a second peak."that is what ultimately will do the most damage to health and the most damage to the economy.
"If you move too quickly then the virus could begin to spread exponentially again.
"The public will expect us to do everything we can to stop the spread of the virus and protect lives.

they are right especially now its coming out that there are cases where people have contracted the virus on more than one occasion

That's why Im confused , now I don't know if its just the NHS making sure Im not just blagging a week off but Im feeling awful and the last thing I feel like doing is driving across the other side of Manchester to get tested , if I have to do then fine but a week in isolation is surely better for me
Testing is now for nhs workers as well so they can get you back to work if you don't have it

Just off the phone to a front line nurse at the City Hospital in Belfast (Covid Nightingale hospital) and she said they have reduced their ICU Beds from 230 to 90 as they intake has been much lower than expected in Northern ireland - positive sign.

this is good news, and i have heard similar from three other front line staff in Liverpool, south Manchester and Edinburgh, all experiencing lighter loads. Ok so these are anecdotal but I hope they convey these positive messages in the media soon.

Are there any patients in the Manchester hospital does anybody know ?

I am a bit worried about getting it again,i was going out to get my meds and bits for the neighbours but i am now going to accept the help my local council have organised to bring stuff to me,i was always cautious about the immunity,i thought it was a bit daft when the experts were saying we assume based on other corona viruses

I've read they have taken some in but it seems like a handful. There were only around 30 in the London one a couple of days ago.

This is excellent news.

Edit: the number of people in hospital, which is a very clear guide to how things are progressing, is falling day on day. Yesterday was 5% lower than the day before.

I've been told that my local is running at under 10% of capacity. 140+ beds and ventilators dorment. And that's it's peak since the outbreak.

Not sure where you live but from what I gather they have been setting up the testing stations across Greater Manchester. There's one at Hopwood Hall College in Middleton for example so hopefully you shouldn't have to travel too far anyway.

Clear now that the 8th was peak mortality therefore peak infection was at lockdown as expected. If nothing else it shows the lockdown worked.
Still don't follow the figures, can you give an idiot's guide to how the table works taking the figure of 85 for yesterday as a start point, thanks

well if he is peddling that line he is one for a shock which will bite him on the arse .

the idea that after the lockdown we all come out and it’s all under control is nonsense.

Have I misunderstood? If he's being cautious isn't he agreeing that it would not be under control?

You have to be a front line NHS worker, emergency worker/key worker to get a test.

Edit: sorry. Just read back. You work for the NHS. Should be OK

Of course separating people from each other will reduce the spread of a virus.

It would make herd immunity even more daft as it assumed people would be immune!

I understood we have yet to see the peak in the north west - but maybe another explanation might be that the virus is becoming less, well, virulent...

Are we ready to liberate Beswick yet?

I can't find the released figures. Where are people getting them from?

bbc :

A further 429 people have died with coronavirus in hospitals in England, latest figures show.

NHS England said that 348 of these deaths were reported over the weekend, while the others took place at earlier dates.
