BREAKING: As President Trump has recently fired an inspector general and escalated his criticism of federal watchdogs, The Government Accountability Office — which is housed under the legislative branch and is mostly untouchable by Trump —has announced it is launching investigations into the federal government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, including how testing of COVID-19 has been conducted, how stimulus relief money has been distributed, and how crucial medical equipment has been doled out nationwide.

I gave up.

Just couldn’t stand the BS.

Put it back on now as he’s attacking journalists again.

Evening both. I have to fess up, had a night off last night @karen7 - went all cold turkey and tried to alter my sleeping pattern. Didnt really work though, so I’ll most likely be back on it later tonight!
Did I miss a “good” one? Saw something briefly he’d told a journalist (CBS once again, female once again), to calm down, settle down etc (?)

Agree, his base are devout racist white trash and they share his values. He can count on their unequivocal support - it hangs on the motivation of the Dems and the thought processing of those that sit in the middle.

We have the same with brexit morons here although the racism is much less overt.
So your basing your disgusting comment on the fact that someone voted for BREXIT ? 17.4 Million morons in the UK that are Racist ?

'Mostly' untouchable, yet we've all seen how Trump wields the power of the the Attorney General.

Watch this space!

The irony being that anyone who thinks people who disagree with them must be morons is probably a moron.

People who disagree with me on topics I know a lot about and/or have studied intensely and/or have experience gaining context about are often morons, at least when it comes to those topics.

Having said that, I do disagree with the statement that Trump's supporters are "devout racist white trash." Some are, I'm sure. Many are not. But that's a thing about a cult. The commonality among membership is psychological need-based, not necessarily issue-based, upbringing-based, race-based or social-class-based.

I can’t comment about Trump supporters because I don’t know any, but the idea that 40% of the American population are morons is a moronic opinion to hold. There’s a number of reasons why his supporters love him, and it’s a mistake not to try to understand what they are imo.

He’s getting more tiresome now (not that he ever wasn’t) in the sense that he keeps fannying about with the briefing start time doesn’t he, and changing it or delaying it at the last moment. Anyway, probably see you later!

So you don’t think the vast majority of his followers (some 40% of the US) are creationist, religious fanatic, pro life or pro gun?

You can argue the racist element I’d bet as even in the Deep South, not that many are willing to go on record with their thoughts so it would be harder to prove to you.

I await your reply, a reply from someone that’s obviously done zero research into the above, and yet still has the balls to suggest it’s me that’s the moron. Irony indeed. Let me ask you this, in 2020, do you think holding the view that the creation myth (and the Earth being 10,000 years old) is a moronic view or one based on evidence, reason and understanding?

I don't believe 40% are morons. I believe almost all have either moral and/or an intellectual failing (including and especially self-knowledge and contextual/historic knowledge failings). The reason all of his supporters support him is that they he believe he will make their specific lives better, which is why anyone supports a candidate. That includes people who believe that he will make others' lives better, which in turn makes that individual supporter's life better. There are those who believe hurting others makes their own lives better too.

Nah. Just 38% are moronic because they vote against their own best interests. 2% are very rich who vote for him to get even richer at the expense of the other 98% because they are greedy bastards.
Figures are just personal opinion before anyone calls me out on them.

I'd imagine there are more elements that make up the 40%, e.g. idol worshipers (it could have been Simon Cowell), the uneducated disillusioned from communities with no more industry, the ones with a warped obsession with patriotism....

I’m awaiting his reply so I can show him the exact demographic figures and polling data for each. Because unlike him, I’m not a moron and I actually take the time to read up on stuff I comment on. He should probably do likewise, lest he look a fucking idiot with his passive aggression.

40% of your fellow Americans think the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. They’re fucking morons. I wouldn’t allow them to make me a coffee in my office.

I look at it differently. The stakes are very high in admitting this because it means you have to throw away the entire moral code you've based your life on if you admit that the Bible is not literal fact. If Genesis is untrue, then that means the Gospels and the remainder might be too. And if that's the case, there is no permanent punishment for evil or permanent reward for doing good. So life becomes, in their eyes, pointless. No one wants to de-anchor and rethink an entire life philosophy -- it's too hard. We all do it in one form or another (we all support City come hell or high water, right? :)). It's why Trump's supporters won't leave him either. It's easier to plug one's ears, accept the wildly irrational, dig oneself in than to rethink a life philosophy.

It doesn't make them stupid necessarily -- it makes them fearful necessarily. And that's where the amorality part comes in. Trump and his enablers, like evangelical preachers and hucksters for centuries, prey on this fear. They don't want to ease it -- they want to stoke it. Because they and their products are the answer to quelling it. Whether it's the Word of God or an anti-immigration, pro-gun policy.
