This is true and I knew it would cost her the day she said it. Met a bloke last summer in Arizona who supports Trump, in many ways a redneck yet smart, charming, funny, good dad, good bloke with it, and his resentment of that comment was still burning inside him. We found common ground in both liking the Mets & in his fondness for the English but otherwise he'd have been as ready to dismiss me as an east coast liberal as I'd been to see him as a John Wayne flag-waver. So how do liberals like me unite with guys like him ?
The odd thing is, though, that reaction to the "deplorables" comment did Hilary more damage than Trump's stuff about grabbing women by the pussy or shameful mocking of the disabled did to him.

Because he's not a woman or disabled would be my guess.

I said before that the only thing that could unite Americans was a clearly justifiable war or a depression. I didn't think of a pandemic. And yet we have a pandemic, and maybe a depression coming. And yet Trump's base is as strong as ever -- maybe a bit smaller, but the die-hards haven't wavered. So I'm going to be wrong.

I guess it's going to be a President who can unify both sides. That's why I liked Steve Bullock -- I thought a very popular moderate Democrat governor from a deep red state like Montana who hunts and fishes and has an All-American family and practical solutions would be well-thought of, as he is in Montana, where his party doesn't matter but his demeanor and pragmatism does. Of course the fringes from both sides would have shouted him down, and he got a late start and had no money.

We WILL age out of this eventually. His kids can't carry on the cult the same way he can, and eventually he'll croak, but I doubt there will be another Donald Trump. I just am not sure what the nation will look like after four more years of this debacle.

Yeah, but why are the ratings so high? It’s certainly not because people are happy with him or think he’s a genius I’d suggest.
