it can’t do any harm can it. Given doctors wear them , I think that gives the game away !!!!
The general public is too stupid to know how to use them properly, apparently.

(And whilst I say that in jest, my wife tells me of a guy on video yesterday who was wearing gloves whilst doing the shopping, and then used his mouth to remove a glove when he needed to answer his phone. So they may have a point!)

will be harsh on us the total figures, not just for the many incompetence in so many areas but also we will be honest overall with figures compared to so many other countries around the world

I agree with this BlueHammer85. That said, the overall figures suggest that we should have taken more / better action to combat the virus sooner.

The only harm it can do is limit the availability to health and care workers due to the demand from the population, however this could and should have been addressed during the period when we knew what was going to happen but it hadn’t started in earnest in the UK. Instead we sat on our arses and hoped for the best rather than plan and provision for the worst. This was compounded by the messaging from the government who understated the risk for a month too long.

Has anyone found somewhere that actually sell masks that are fit for purpose?
The ones I use for dusty DIY work like when doing sanding down, cutting tiles etc, I used to get from Screwfix when they were like a quid each or something (and they are proper N95 masks). I'm guessing they are rather more difficult to find now!

they never imposed any lockdown like we did , it was guidance given from the govt (like boris originally gave for the first week) To use social distancing , wash hands etc. Use common sense.

South Koreans though complied.
What is noticeable about South Korea was that they were a high profile example not of social distancing, or hygiene but of testing, and tracing.

The UK health authorities know full well that testing and tracing can be effective and furthermore they have the capacity to do it. I think they have chosen not to because they see some benefit in insuring against a 2nd wave by maintaining the infection rate. This maybe a nonsense strategy. At the moment I think it's a conceptual argument. No one wants to lockdown their country and see people die but there are two strategies to fight the virus: total suppression and controlled infection. Mass testing separates the two. Antibody tests may reveal whether herd immunity is attainable and at what cost. Naturally we hope that as many New Yorkers as possible have antibodies to the virus but I suspect they will be found in only small numbers of people.

Conceptual? As in what Trump said, "It's a concept, if you don't mind death".

When I have ventured out to do some essential shopping I find it hilarious how many seem to be wearing the mask over their mouths but not their noses. And those just wearing it on their chin to enable the smoking of a fag beggar belief.

one guy in the asda que had made a hole in his mask so he could smoke with it on and blow smoke out via his uncovered nose

Cheers mate. Ah I'm fine really. I'm just a very open guy. I can imagine an awful lot of us are feeling pretty crap! I just feel better if I put my concerns out there. It's kinda like free therapy ha. Usually someone replies helpfully! Like in this instance :)
Good lad!

I’m the complete opposite; I’m closed off and always say “yeah I’m alright” to anyone who asks even if I’m having a mare or in a state of depression.

Although I am actually coping with all this well, so far!

there needs to be an education hammering on this, Masks for the public are not there to stop people catching it, they are there to stop asymptomatic people spreading it. the quality of masks and fit of masks between what front line NHS need and what public need are massive.

A cut up tshirt would be fine for the public.
