don’t worry there will be flights still coming in to the country every day Unchecked you won’t need to worry about pubs

piers Morgan shouting about Cheltenham 70,000 a day

meanwhile 2million people using the London Underground everyday at the same time

and you are worried about 30 people in a pub
There would be more than one pub open.

I'm afraid that reads like it was compiled by a teenager looking for a cause to follow. First it's based on press report and second but most importantly it does not look at comorbidity. When I see these deaths reported the first thing that stands out to me is not the ethnicity but the fact they all appear to range from overweight to obese. When you go looking for something with such a narrow field of vision you will find it.

Though it tallies with what I’ve heard regarding the people in the highest risk jobs, i.e ICU workers not suffering as much due to the higher standard of PPE equipment they wear as opposed to just ward nurses etc.

Granted they’re still working off a small pool of data, I wouldn’t dismiss it out of hand though.

funnily enough if I am in my pub i can’t catch it from people in other pubs

meanwhile flights come in every single day unchecked

the tube runs every single day packed

the tram runs

people go back to work in offices

my bakers is open

people queuing in supermarkets

there is no consistency we either have social distancing or we don’t , it’s pathetic to say you are controlling it by closing pubs when at the same time people are rammed on tubes and planes.

so you relax the lockdown and say pubs no no but get on a packed tram , train or tube and get to work.

Planes, trains and trams are 95% empty at the moment.

they weren’t a month a go.

Equally when we start the lock down release they will get busy again.there needs to be consistency on social distancing. Pubs staying closed is like worrying about butterfly on your daffodils when you have elephants in your cabbages.

btw am not bothered about the pub , fishing and golf is important to me and I can’t do either. My golf course has never been busier but no fucker is playing golf, just sun bathing and playing beach in the bunkers.

what I am worried about is consistency . Packed tubes, planes and trams are far more dangerous than a couple of blokes having a pint in a shit pub .

You're probably not gonna catch it from a bloke sat in a stand opposite you at the Etihad either are you? But that didn't stop them shutting down games. The point is tens of thousands will probably be in loud pubs, leaning over talking into people's ears every night. It's *clearly* a hotbed for spreading it.

Everything else you listed there is transport or food. People need them to get to work or eat. How are they comparable to a pub? No one needs a pub full of drunk people. I do agree transport needs to be less packed, but it also needs to still be there. We've got no choice on that.

fine, it will still spread then. Closing pubs Is the key .

allowing everything else we are safe, it’s sorted. Defeated. .

It doesn't appear to me that the authors are trying to follow any cause at all. What they are doing is presenting the facts as they appear to someone without the benefit of inside information, and then making some reasonable conclusions and asking some interesting questions. For example, it is interesting that the fatalities for NHS staff is, as a percentage, similar to the general population, suggesting that working in the NHS is no more dangerous than being at large in the community.
That, combined with the fact that those working in very high risk areas such as ITU do not appear to be represented, leads the authors to wonder whether these individuals are contracting the Virus at work or at home. The authors do clearly point out that the study and its data needs to be treated with caution, but I don't think it should be dismissed simply because of its fairly crude appearance.

The ice cream van was back this evening... Gloved hand handing out cornets - and taking cash and giving change

Stupid comment. 30 people? Yeah, 30 people crammed at the bar trying to get a drink in just one of our 40,000 pubs.

Are we engaged in a giant experiment on delayed gratification?

The ones who want lockdown ended are the kids who want the sweetie now. The ones saying keep it going are the kids who believe they'll be rewarded by getting two sweets later.

you obviously drink in a different pub to me and have travelled on empty tube trains

I thought the pub trade was on its arse and closing at an alarming rate ?
Were they shut for months on end prior to this alarming rate of closures? People in this country will be out like it’s NYE. It will be a nationwide event.

I agree that banning fishing and golf is a bit pointless. Anyone could easily do either whilst maintaining social distancing.
There’s nothing I’d like more than to go for a few pints in my local, but social distancing would break down fairly quickly once the alcohol starts flowing. Comparing it to public transport is wrong. We’re going to have to find a way of making public transport safe because we can’t do without it, but we can do without going for a pint.

well you have a point, but pubs and restaurants have to open at some point?

I am not arsed about going to the pub I just think what is worse when it’s eased

packed planes, trains and trams

pub.

consistency is important

I just want consistent focus on social distancing whatever the venue.

I agree I just want the focus on lockdown release to be on the ability and importance of social distancing and not the event, transport or thing.

we have to all adapt to a new mindset for the foreseeable. That’s the important thing.

Can’t disagree with that. Up till now the rules have been black and white so that everyone can understand, even the most stupid. Now we all know the score, it could be more nuanced with certain restrictions being relaxed if social distancing is maintained. There will always be the idiots who don’t think it applies to them but there’s not much that can be done other than making it legally and socially unacceptable to behave like a dick.
