Does the EU even still exist ? Hardly heard from them over the last couple of months, apart from them apologising for the fact that no-ones heard from them over the last couple of months.
Perhaps they’re not the quasi government of people’s imagination, after all? Perhaps countries in the EU have now been given sovereignty, following our departure?

So, if the EU are all for freedom and sovereignty, what are they apologising for?
The Italians are sovereign are they not, so it's their problem isn't it?
It seems the convicted criminal negligent that runs the show is very, very sorry about them.

She’s apologised for Europe not the EU. Her crocodile tears won’t fool the Italians.

Its a faux apology as she and many others can see the fracture lines becoming ever wider.

Economically there is no way the French and German electorates are going to pick the bill up for not only their own fucked economies but also that of many of the 27 that suck on the teat.

Just a re run of the credit crunch in 2011 when they baulked at the idea of setting up Eurobonds to stabilize government borrowing costs in half the EU, same will happen with covid bonds. Bottom line is that northern countries don’t want to underwrite their fellow member states I.e their main clients that have allowed them to prosper with strong trade surpluses and keep their currency at a diluted level for competitiveness on a global playing field.

A band of brothers in name only - A mantra to be used in times of prosperity and peace - I keep forgetting why the European project started after world war 2

This is now their problem, and their's alone, the Italians are severely pissed off with all things EU,
if they don't manage to change perception there, another one may be flying the nest.

Our divorce bill doesn’t seem quite so expensive now does it? ;)

Am I right that the people who liked this post didn't really understand what you were saying?

I know that Brexit must seem pretty unimportant right now - but I spotted an article giving the views of Yanis Varoufakis on the increasingly strident bleating of Barnier (he puts me in mind of that clip of the girl breaking down in tears because of the referendum outcome from 2016).

Not just Barnier - there are no end of diehard Remainers demanding that there should be an extension of the negotiations. When all the bleating is coming from one side - then it is obvious where the anxiety really lies

I sincerely hope that he is reading the UK government attitude correctly. The demands of Barnier on 'level-playing field', governance and fishing are just pathetically unreasonable - thankfully May and Robbins are no longer positioned to undermine the UK. Barnier must really miss those days of dealing with the lapdog Robbins.

Fingers crossed that there is genuine UK resolve and, if there is, that it will continue beyond this crisis when it will be particularly important that we are free of the EU's constraints

Ah yes Brexit. I remember that. The way this shower have handled the virus fills me with so much confidence that they will get Brexit done properly.
Yes it’s quite touching to see the faith some ardent Brexiteers have in the ability of our government to get the best outcome for the UK in spite of their utter mishandling of the pandemic response.

Apparently, he wants the fishing and is a tad upset that it's being refused, so the talks are stymied
before they've even got going. We should let him have it, we'll take Burgundy in return ;)

The elephant in the room for Brexit is how and by whom it has been delivered.

Brexit was a choice that the UK was free to make.

But the big problem is that it was delivered by people who hid their motivation, hid their backers and lied, cheated and generally used every dirty trick available to them.

These people are now our Government and they can perpetuate the con for now. Their problem is that truth does not disappear and it will eventually become apparent.

This Vote Leave Government will use every lever of the state and more to retain power as without power the future for them is very bleak indeed. Where that leads us is truly frightening.

All those restraints yeah how have we managed all this time with zero tariffs, zero customs checks and zero impediments to the movement of people, goods, services around the EU. Its going to be great once we stop all that.
