The usual remain fanatics in Parliament have used the pandemic to demand we remain in i see.

As the wheel of excuses spins yet again it stops for the 1476 time on Fish.

" We can't leave as no one will buy our fish"

Yes they will.
Not if we only catch for our own use. Pay attention to what your mates are saying.

That's surely what fishing only for our own use means, isn't it? That wasn't my suggestion. Even if we did want to export, tariffs will cut demand in the EU for our fish.

If you agree with the dismissive "what fishing industry?" jibe, just say so. We can then put "save our fishing industry" down as yet another Brexiter deception.

The same folk who were laughing at the concept of us having a viable fishing industry when access to our own waters was touted as a brexit benefit. Hopefully rebuilding our fishing industry post brexit will take long enough for the stocks to recover from years of EU greed and miss management

We got onto this because Barnier was "bleating" about no progress.

Access to UK waters for EU fishing fleets or face tariffs. We seem to be going for tariffs.
Indeed he was bleating, and he's been told to bleat off.
Tariffs are not solely in his gift, he needs to now realise that he's not now dealing with Patsy's like
May and her EU sycophantic civil servant, UK territory is not up for discussion, should
we ask them to give us half of Burgundy? A free trade deal is what I believe will happen,
the relative governments will insist on progress, Barnier and the Brussels crew are not that
relevant now.

I honestly think some people think trade barriers are a geological feature like mountains or rivers. They don't even exist unless someone creates them. Free trade is the natural state of things.

So your "what fishing industry?" thing was sarcastic, was it? It is insignificant in relation to the damage of Brexit so, yes, it was and is given disproportionate prominence.

But the idea that the EU is responsible for the decline of UK fishing and for overfishing is historical nonsense.

So is walking everywhere.

What is your point? We got rid of tariffs on most of our trade by joining the Common market. You are on the side that's destroyed that.

true Vic. European fishing fleets have been fishing in British waters for centuries and vice versa. Fishing is disproportionate in terms of the economy but quite important culturally. We export what we catch and import what we eat. Its aye been that way and likely will continue that way for many more decades.

Love it. Greece and Eastern Europe to rescue the EU Economy then?
I loved the lack of awareness in his attempted clever comment:

"........ I know that over time my generosity would be rewarded and that if I ever fell on tough times you'd help me out…."

Yeah - I am sure the citizens of Greece and Italy have really felt the benefit of that community wide spirit in the past and very recently

They must be lauding what they see as the munificent EU every day

I dealt with this sufficiently IMO in my comment in post #33623
Against my better judgement I did look. I think I've waited all my life to wonder when best to use the expression, "What's that got to do with the price of fish?" And now I know.

The point was - that I was referring to people that do not understand even the basics of things - yet still post

In this case - you have shown your utter lack of understanding of even the basics of the management of negotiations

I have little doubt that you will continue to emphasise this lack

The point is that the tariffs are a construct. They serve no purpose other than protectionism towards members of a cartel, yet some of you treat them like they are something virtuous. Join the EU so you don't have tariffs seems to be the logic instead of get rid of the EU so you don't have tariffs. Give us your money and we'll give you some back. Also, you can't negotiate with anyone else about free trade until we say! It's just weird and controlling like a classic abusive relationship.

I may have mentioned this before...…...….

People appear to not even understand the basics - yet they still post to emphasise that fact

The EU didn't invent tariffs.
