Well it doesn’t look like anyone - Aer Lingus or anyone else - gives a flying fcuk on the evidence of that photo. WTF are they all doing? And why?

This has been the case all along and the reason people start thinking they are not being told the whole truth and wonder what the hell is going on. Planes still flying in packed like sardines while over 70's are cooped up indoors and the vast majority of the country is closed. Mixed messages.

And probably why nearly 1 month after the peak and 6 full weeks after lockdown, we still have 400 people dying every day. A 100% lockdown would have resulted in zero deaths per day at this point. I know that was never practicable, I am just putting it out there.

Aer Lingus Dublin to London, yesterday:

To me, this photo sums up the muddled thinking, not only by our authorities but by plenty of posters on here who get erections by slamming the “dickheads” and “cunts”.

Personally, I’m happy to bend the rules a little on exercise, knowing that a couple of outdoors sorties a day, maintaining a 2 metre distance, is safe enough.

Similarly, I accept that driving to a beauty spot for a walk, and then maintaining 2 metres distance, may not be kosher but isn’t really disastrous.

But to be allowed to sit on that plane touching elbows, with no masks and shared air con, is plain crazy. I wouldn’t do that if you paid me. What’s so important that those passengers want to take that risk? And why is it allowed?

I know New Zealand is a much smaller country but they seemed to manage it. It's a bit baffling to me that with a pandemic heading our way that was going to kill thousands and with advance warning we seemed to freeze like rabbits in the headlights. Then with the country in a lockdown thousand more were allowed to fly in and go on their merry way, no checks and no quarantine. Insanity.

the government are going to get an absolute hammering over the flight policy throughout this . There is no excuse.

I also don’t understand why the fuck the passengers are “happy” to subject themselves to such travel. Fucking mental.

US projection of lives lost in the US by 4th Aug has gone from 60,308 to 134,475. Why? Re-opening. They're also now describing this as the first wave which is ominous. This is from the Cuomo presentation (New York governor).

all the care we all take trying to avoid surfaces , can you imagine putting your things in one of those security trays and getting them out again. Filthy.

People returning from holiday in Italy and Spain at half term should have been quarantined. Both countries had enough cases to warrant it. But nothing was done. Worse, air travel is STILL an open door.
I know the advice from SAGE was it only delayed things by a month but the advice was bad then and is clearly dreadful when looking through the 20-20 hindsight retrospectoscope.

The way we have managed flights in the UK is totally bizarre. We seem to be out of step with the rest of the world. Most places have tight controls on airports with passengers tested before they get onboard, half empty planes, curfews on arrival etc etc. I have not seen a sensible explanation from anyone in authority as to why this is not the case in the UK.
When the full investigation is held into this debacle I am sure airport controls will be added to the shameful list that includes; not enough early testing; inadequate PPE; no masks; Cheltenham races etc etc. Never mind we can all console ourselves by celebrating VE Day on Friday night by singing; "We'll meet again." Sorry to be so cynical but I am finally realising that we have all been had.
Just seen a CNN report that says Greece has the oldest and poorest population in Europe but has apparently had just 150 deaths. Makes you think doesn't it?

Let's not forget that if you're under 45 you are very unlikely to die of covid. You won't see deaths until 23(ish) days after it's widespread enough to be infecting the older people. Wuhan didn't suffer from A strain infections, they were hit by B strain. I don't know if the French case is a testing problem or a real case but they will know by the mutations how early in the spread it is. I looked earlier on nexstrain but it isn't on there yet.
Do you know which strain is in the UK or is it different ones?

Some scientific advice suggests to maintain the infection rate, or to cycle it on and off and avoid a wave 2.

Fast forward this video to 11 minutes if you're interested. The guy who is interviewed at the end is the creator of the Ebola vaccine

New Zealand really isn't a good example.
Singapore is though and 2 week quarantine has been mandatory there since February.

So you are telling me if I am in a room with 10 infected people as opposed to 1.....my viral load will be the same?
No, that's not what I am telling you.

If there's 100 people in the room and 1 person is infected, then you don't get double the viral load if there are 2 infected people in the room. You just have double the chance of chatting with 1 of them.

And apart from anything else, there's debate about whether viral load is even a factor.
