Try a good 75% away. I reckon circa 5% of the population have caught this so far. If I am right then that would mean trying to get herd immunity before a vaccine or effective treatment would mean another 15x the current 30 to 40 thousand dead. It's an insane "strategy".

And what if like the AIDS virus a vaccine is not possible, not a fan of heard immunity far from it but what is the alternative ?

I didn't watch the UK briefing but I read the summary on the BBC. One notable point I thought was a comment that R is thought to be lowest in London. That suggests we're now seeing significant immunity because London with its population density and heightened economic activity would at the outset naturally be higher.

Encouraging news if London is as we are often told a couple of weeks ahead of the rest of the uk

I don't think it was that long ago but I see what you mean,we are a few decades ahead now science wise and patients don't die with aids like they used to do ,we can use those same drugs if the trials work out for covid,nothing is going to be 100%,we will have to live with covid now,the hope is it becomes weaker and a vaccine can be given to the at risk people like flu and pneumonia jabs are now,it should be more of a flu type situation going towards than aids type situation
