No great surprise at a change in message. Large numbers of people have grown fearful of using the NHS due to the possibility of contracting the virus and some have even interpreted the message as not using the NHS at all. Data suggests we’re now seeing 8,000 excess deaths than those in normal times (80% of those non-Covid). It’s a figure that can’t just be ignored.

Getting people to stop the picnics in the parks and bbqs with friends is another matter that needs to be resolved (more powers to the police). Already even the slightest talk of easing restrictions has caused people to abuse the privileges we were permitted to have. I’m talking about exercising once a day when Italy and Spain were not allowed it at all.

What I said doesn't matter,what they say does,stay alert,control the virus is meaningless ,public need something clear,something they can do,control the virus is what the gov and medics do,now they say stay alert means stay at home,they don't mean the same things to me

Neither am I, but sections of our society fit into that bracket and this message will feed into it. If he's leading the country then messages should be crystal clear, leaving nothing ambiguous or confusing for every cross section of the population. In not doing so, its created an opportunity to shift the blame when things are inevitably about to go tits up.

Doyou feel we now need 2 slogans, 1 for the "stay alert" workers returning to still dangerous world. The other of "stay at home" for the older and vulnerable still in their own homes.
What we say to the carehome residents I don't know.

it’s a fucking slogan. What do you want an act of parliament ?

at least give him a chance to explain it he speaks at 7, or was it on earlier in Scotland?

Doesn’t really matter we’ve been told whats happening in Scotland, and I‘ve yet to speak or hear from a single person today that isn’t supporting Sturgeons stance, and I live in one of the few Tory supporting parts of Scotland where many I know have little time for the SNP.

Sigh,they have clarified this morning that stay alert means stay at home,how is that the same? and why are they needing to change that bit if it means the same,the first slogan was very clear,this is being to smart for their own good

In much the same fashion that jokes become less funny when you have to explain them, the message was obviously less clear and hence the explanation which followed. Instead of basing the clarity of the message on your own interpretation it should be based upon the clarity to the most vulnerable sectors of society who might have difficulty in understanding it. Stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives was crystal clear. I realise we've moved on from that stage and perhaps a new message was required but it should still serve the exact same function in terms of clarity.

Thanks GD, time I suppose to get a separate message to the carehome residents because as we both know their home is now a disaster zone and definitely not the place for them from a CV point of view.

They have changed the slogan,it means the same,stay alert,control the virus is not needed then,everyone here is what the fuck does that mean? Make the message clear and not one you have to explain on news channels ,in the papers and with a clarification from downing street! This is not a joke,we are still losing hundreds every day

I agree with you, i don't understand why so many on here are trying to excuse it or say 'its only a slogan'

Sure alot of people will understand it, but there are very thick or just naive people out there too. 'Stay alert' could be read as 'ok, well as long as i stay alert i can go outside as much as i like'.

And to those who say 'lets wait until tonight to see what he says and explain it', alot of people wont watch tonight, and will only see or hear the slogan so it should be as clear as possible... which it wont be for a large section on people.
