Simple finances are we better off with £50 miilion to reinvest or nothing ? FFP will already be a struggle because of covid, the market will be deflated because of covid. Fantasy transfer windows are over for now, there is a new reality out there. Carry on ignoring reality if it helps though.

What indication is there that the fantasy transfer is over? Saudi Arabia have just joined the PL and they are looking to spend big with FFP being loosened. Football is coming back and there is no indication the market is crashing. We can let Bayern have their way with us and when we go to sign our player we can have the reality check that we need to pay the same prices.

You're the next up and coming star with two clubs chasing your signature, who do you choose?

Club 1: Has a reputation for treating players with the upmost respect and is understanding and supportive of player wishes if things don't quite work out for whatever reason.

Club 2: Has a reputation for treating players with the upmost contempt, ignoring the wishes of the player and trying to sabotage the player's career when things don't quite work out for whatever reason.

We want players here who are happy, trust the club to do the right thing by them and "want to be here" for the right reasons. If a player doesn't want to be here for whatever reason (personal, financial or footballing), let them leave and try and get the best deal possible for the club while maintaining the clubs moral values. It plays a huge part in why we love this club.

That’s about as tenuous a link as they come but if it helps you feel better then I’ll let you have it. My point stands just as much re the other replies but ultimately it’s a complete difference of mentality and isn’t worth discussing much further; apparently some people don’t mind watching us have our trousers taken down over a transfer.
There's no point reiterating the same old shit if you're going to purposefully avoid difficult questions like the one I asked above, it's a very weak stance and other posters will think I've had your pants down by your continued refusal to answer.

OK , lets wait and see what the professionals running the club decide, we’ll see what Sane goes to Bayern for , think it will be a fair bit less than your £70 mill cut off.

Pushover - a person who is easy to influence or overcome.
Or one that is easily defeated or taken advantage of, which in this case has

‘I don’t believe large transfers will take place this summer,’ Volker Struth told German outlet Sport 1. ‘And I think Upamecano is a player who will demand a large fee. ‘So the statement has already been made.’

You honestly think players won’t sign for us if we hardball one of them? Lol that’s very naïve of you if so. What players will be driven by is the financials and the chance to win trophies.

So much for your “difficult question”.

As for retorts about people thinking you’re having anyone’s trousers down; they are pretty feeble when you’re pushing a beta viewpoint.

Nobody has advocated taking a silly offer, we stand by our valuation but what you believe to be an acceptable valuation and what is realistic in the current market I feel are two very different propositions. This I feel is backed up by people like Dayot Upamecano's agent who has stated he feels big transfers won't happen this summer and that's with a very highly thought of player with a relatively low release clause of £50m pre-corona.

If you genuinely believe we could or even should try to force a player into signing a new contract extension then that tells me all I need to know about you, whatever you think he's done, that's pretty fucking disgusting.

Why is it disgusting? Big clubs don’t get pushed around by their discontent players. Hate him but SAF did not allow Beckham and Ronaldo to have it their way. If we get a two year ban the next thing will be us selling KDB and Raheem for £20m each for Real Madrid. All I am saying is that putting on a loss cutting pushover mentality is going to backfire.

In recent years we have decided to use the clubs size as a pull factor, telling agents to fuck off (Sanchez). If we start letting players leave on their grounds like Tevez did, we will regress back to our start with Mansour. We need to evolve into a big club and act like one.

Your idea of evidence is interesting lol

You certainly love making extremely tenuous links

You've answered your own question, not the one I asked but fair enough.

Why hasn't Sane signed a new contract then if it's purely about money and trophies? We pay considerably higher wages than Bayern in general and we've won more trophies since Sane was offered the new contract with us.

You are changing the discussion because I have proven your “difficult question” to be bullshit.

You implied that players wouldn’t want to sign for us if we hardballed Sané which is ridiculous. Players will still sign for us because we have the financial capabilities to provide them with a good package and we are competing for trophies.

As for Sané and his motivation to go to Bayern, he is being offered a much more generous financial package by Bayern (this has been quoted by various sources close to the player) and he has already won all there is to win in England domestically; it’s not like Bayern aren’t also competing for every trophy out there. Having said that it has absolutely nothing to do with the point you were making

If the implications of covid are so wide-ranging that all clubs will be significantly affected by it, then yes. Football is just like any other commercial industry - regulations will be eased to get money flowing again because of the shit some clubs will be in.
Okay, lets se shall we most people are predicting lower fees even seen articles estimating how much the value of top players have depreciated this summer. As I say not really bothered happy to leave it to the club. Still expect to be proven right we’ll sell for about £50 mill , buy Aouar for about the same. Sell a couple of others , buy a C.B. Maybe a left back out and one in. That will be about it. Net spend not much more than £30 mill if that. Could get a couple of younger prospects in .

Attempting being the definitive word. Not one person has advocated taking the first bid on this thread, it's the start of a negotiation.

They are talking about 100 million for Jadon Sancho. Nicholas Pepe went for 70+ million.
It isn't the start of a negotiation. It's the start of an attempted robbery.

if you were selling an apple for 10 quid and someone offered you 3.50, would you start haggling? Or would you say, no mate, get fucked?

If you would start haggling, can I get my hypothetical apples off you in future?

Pull factor - telling Sanchez's agent to fuck off? Ok, haha!! Surely if we were using the clubs size as a pull factor he would have come here because of the club, not gone elsewhere for more money. That strategy worked out well didn't it.

Who mentioned selling KDB or Sterling for £20m to Real Madrid?

It's disgusting because you're advocating forcing someone to do something they don't want to do, with no guaranteed outcome, just so a business can benefit. I bet if that was your company trying to get you to sign a contract forcing you to work in conditions you didn't want to (extra hours, locations, situations etc) without guaranteeing additional pay or benefits you wouldn't sign it and you'd be wanting to take legal action. Think of the effect that would have on colleagues who had witnessed that company behaviour too, they'd be thinking fuck this, it could be me they fuck over next, I'm off.

We will see what the future holds but current trend is not pointing towards crashing prices. China started allowing mass gatherings now so football may easily be allowed to return to normal by September in England. We have Saudi Arabia in the league now and they will be spending big. I would be cautious with the expectation that prices are going be lower when the opposite is looking just as likely if not more.
