COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Just worth remembering this the next time some viral picture of people not socially distancing pops up.

Thought for a while the reason why ,in Scotland, over the last 3 weeks hospitalisations have dropped about 20% while ICU have dropped over 60%, was maybe using the spare capacity to hospitalise sooner and the earlier intervention preventing deterioration to ICU. Seems it could be the case.

“1,618 patients are in hospital with a suspected or confirmed case (up 165), with 81 being treated in intensive care (up one).

She explains the increase of people in hospital is entirely in suspected cases, while there has been a drop in confirmed cases of people in hospital with Covid-19.“

Some of us are just trying to explain that it’s impossible for the guidelines to be crystal clear, and that anyone expecting it to be clear for 50 odd million variants is being an arse.

There maybe people who understand them but don't agree with the logic behind them. I'm surprised some of the really clever posters(The ones that call out the stupid ones consistently to help in their own penis growth) haven't thought of that.

Too risky, people may not buy them.
I see a wealth tax on all assets coming, or abolishing capital gains tax relief on principle private residences.
Actually the tax relief on principle private homes is something that may happen.
In Spain it simply does not exist and payment is due on all so be prepared or is that suggestion likely to meet with some sort of censorship?

Ok makes sense. I had read that direct sunlight kills Sars2 in minutes. It’s one of the reasons I shake my head when I see Qatar disinfecting main roads. That and people could always avoid licking the roads.
The UV that penetrates the atmosphere is in the UV-A and UV-B wavelength bands and isn't very effective on bacteria and viruses. UV-C is the wavelength band that kills most efficiently but that's blocked by the ozone layer which is just as well for us as it's highly dangerous so it can only be used under strictly controlled conditions.

I heard TFL are having financial issues as they are not picking up a lot of fares. Didn't realise that staff had been put on furlough though.
Yep it’s about 25% of the staff, but they are topping up their salaries to full pay. Think it’s on the TFL website somewhere.
Knew a while ago though because up until last week one of the team was supporting TfL at their office in Stratford on the four lines modernisation project so heard it first hand.

if this economic crash is as forecast and the mothballing of the economy carries on as long as expected I look forward to getting a capital loss when I sell my house.

I am on my lunch break now. I read the news report and I see that Denmark's epidemiologist has gone on record as saying that he thinks it's unlikely that Denmark will see a second wave given the testing and tracing system they have in place. And yet the UK say our virus is decaying with a half-life of a fortnight. What do we do? Instead of killing it off, we start to lift the lockdown. These may seem irrelevant disconnected facts but implicit in these facts is that a UK belief that a second wave is a risk. This to me is the question of the moment. How do you address it? I don't see how you can. I think it's an act of faith, and therefore I prefer the belts and braces UK approach.

Well quite. But if the trains that are running are packed then TfL needs to sort out it's timetable.

quite all these decisions have a knock on effect and not properly thought out.

TFL cut is service and so trains get more packed. It should have increased capacity not reduced it . Ditto the tram service.

the bin service gets cut back and tips closed, fly tipping increases !!

senior schools yeah likely September . Little ones earlier June

It’s more to do with year groups as opposed to primary vs secondary.

Full reopening of both are very unlikely to happen. I’d even say impossible before September.

However, I’d expect both primary and secondary to have some form of reopening before the summer. It’ll probably be primary in early June and secondary late June/early July.

Yeah but the house you buy will be cheaper.

that needs posting on the coronavirus positive news thread.

the sale of it and the loss I will stick on the political thread.

it’s the glass half empty , half full threads

is a bit like out of a population of say 66million people

this awful virus has killed 30/40,000 people

or

65,970,000/ 65,960,000 have not died of it.

Incidently my mate who looks after a server room in Canary Wharf and who travels in on the Jubilee Line tells me trains have been a bit full in the morning for two weeks now. So this issue has been brewing for a while.

4 months is a long time, there are some people in my work who are still off whilst others are back and some have had no time off, work is getting busier too.

It's going to cause some resentment if some employees are kept off for 6 months whilst others have had to work. 6 month holiday on full pay for some which isn't fair.

I said this would happen although I thought September, I expect a lockdown again around November to cover the flu period over winter as well, imagine queuing for shopping when it’s fucking freezing it’s going to be a long year.

good point. I’m off to get 5,000 loo rolls to prepare myself.
