meanwhile a former director of the WHO is claiming we may not need a vaccine as the virus could burn itself out .

torygraph are reporting ....

An outlier, one who believes we may have already got to 65% with the 40% whose imune system somehow deals with the virus without generating B and T lymphocyte cells.
Very optimistic I think.

Total opposite of what I read yesterday which was when other experts have tried to make sense of his data it was described as 'a mess' and if a business had produced such analysis they would go bust. The guy has a history of failure yet we allowed him to dictate our response. Probably the biggest failure of the whole episode for me.

I read the headlines but didn't read the article. Could it be a case of horribly flawed projections but have somehow got to the right result as I'm sure his projections on either doing nothing, social distancing and entire lockdown haven't been far off reality at this stage.

I think it's important to look at the positive news as well and I try do do that where I can, see Professor Karl Sikora if you're looking for that and I genuinely like listening to him because he improves my mental health a bit. But that doesn't simply mean we should disregard what very qualified people are saying just because we don't like it. Her prediction is in line with many others and isn't based on just a gut feeling but by comparing it to how other Coronaviruses act.

Ignoring her and others like her is dangerous.

Hopefully she's as accurate as the other expert Ferguson the we have based our response so far on. I do wonder what the agenda is from people like this woman making perfections such as this to try and keep people scared.

Her agenda seems to be to suggest we need to be prepared. why is that a problem?

'All signs point to the virus hitting hard in winter'. How does she know what's going to happen in the next 8 weeks never mind 5 months.
She's a professor of public health , she might not know what is going to happen in the next eight weeks but she probably does know what signs point towards a winter epidemic of a respiratory disseminated infection.

She's against shielding as a strategy, many on that Twitter feed are against her for her stance on that.

I don't do twitter and am only vaguely aware of some of her opinions, however whether she is right or wrong on shielding my point remains that she should be reasonably knowledgeable about factors likely to cause an upturn in infection rates.
Not suggesting she can be certain there are a lot of unknowns still about this virus.

looking at how every other virus acts gives a pretty good view of how this will pan out. We have other Droplet airborne viruses to predict with.

the only question mark here is how much summer will effect it, which from what we are seeing isn’t much.

from my totally non expert view, we are easing lockdown, that will cause an increase. If we end up with even a steady level of cases (more than we have now, no idea what level that would end up being ) then we will have issues when flu season arrives so we need to prep for that.

And a damn sight more than the armchair experts on here.

Do we listen to her or do we listen to any other scientist who doesn't agree with her? This is where we have to pick a strategy accept it and move forward.

Ha it was a funny question to ask,not the answer I expected lol
From what I read teachers want answers to details like you suggested whilst the gov have a vision of nicely behaved kids all sitting two metres apart, not running around touching everything and sticking their fingers in their mouths
tbf it was probably like that at the posh private schools they went to...

As my wife will tell you, it will be more mentally disturbing telling a year one child that they must not go near or play with their friends.

They don't have the capacity to process it.

On the flip side, it it whit holidays coming up, which is two weeks for some schools, so the government and the right wing press are basically trying to blackmail and smear an an entire profession for the the sake of a month before the summer holiday then come around.

I'm sure most of those dead NHS workers would have thought twice if they had known they would have paid with their lives.

Most of our schools are Victorian in structure, small narrow corridors, tight staircases.

The reality is that socially distancing children from each other and also teachers, is nigh on impossible.

It has been hard enough these last couple of months, my wife and others only being spared by the great weather, enabling a number of 'babysitting' classes to be done outside on the playground and field.

If you want to pick holes you’ll always find them, it is a complete impossibility to not find contradictions somewhere as we come out of lockdown, bar having a black/white scenario of just saying it’s completely over so get on with life.
Nailed it
Whatever is proposed is open to pick holes in
We don’t live in an ideal world normally let alone in these times
Ultimately it will be a personal choice if you want to send kids back to school
I’m torn and I change my mind hourly

Just went out with the dog into Poynton coppice for the woodland walk. The Middlewood Way is like the M6!
I had to look both ways before crossing from the car park to the coppice. It’s nuts.
