COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I have given up clapping at the front door with my neighbours as I have watched them all break the lockdown rules - it’s just hypocrisy on their part!
I'm a bit mixed about the clapping.

I'm happy to clap for the front-line workers doing a great job. Less so for others who frankly I don't know what they are doing. A&E is empty, many of the non-ICU wards are half full. Operating theatres are hardly loaded. Our local GP surgery normally has about 10 to 15 doctors on duty and currently is allowing in 1 patient in at a time. So I guess that means 1 doctor working. I've no idea what the others are doing but you would have thought given the light load in every department apart from COVID-19, resources would be available?

And yet earlier this week my nextdoor neighbours' 98 year old mother fell and was lying helplessly on the floor, in pain. She called her daughter for help. Her daughter - our neighbour - is 78 herself and has a serious heart condition so is in no condition to be picking her mum up, let alone checking her over medically. So she called our surgery hoping to get a GP to come out and check her mum was OK.. as well as pick her up off the floor. Could her daughter get anyone out to help? No, they refused and claimed they were very busy. "Can't you do it?" "Isn't there a neighbour who can help?" Every excuse under the sun, but no help. She ended up having to call for an emergency doctor because no-one from the local surgery would help, and all the time a 98 year old is lying on the ground. I am not clapping for these people.

Saw in the news yesterday, someone from the airline industry saying checks should be done at departures not arrivals. So people can be stopped from flying with other passengers then needing to be turned around or quarantined. Makes sense, probably better to do both but if only one departures would be better.
If the 20 minute saliva test works then travel in and out can return you would think.

The ones that you don't know what they're doing are the ones who are saving lives and treating people 99% of the time.

Seems you don't appreciate the efforts they put in 100% of the time.

Seems you don't understand that they are people and not all people are flawless.

I mean seriously a 98 year old lying on the floor in pain and the answer is "Can't you get a neighbour to help"??? Do you honestly suggest that is acceptable? What planet are you on???

right.....

horrible to hear of your neighbour having to be in that situation and I hope they recover soon. what a load of piss.
Yes it is, isn't it. Should we be clapping this sort of behaviour?

I am continually amazed by the reaction to ANY criticism of anything the NHS does or of anyone who works in it. Some saints work in the NHS. But not 1.5m of them.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I was commenting on the point regarding the health professionals in a&e and normal icu wards not doing anything half the time as most of the intake is on covid-19 wards.

If I have misquoted someone then I apologise, but I seriously have no idea what you are talking about.

You think people are clapping that sort of behaviour? Really? Or are they clapping for the tens of thousands of nurses, doctors, surgeons, ambulance drivers etc, etc who are doing their utmost to defeat this thing? Why not make a placard and hold it up whilst clapping, "I'm only clapping for the decent staff, not the ones that are lazy".
