I don’t think it is. I think that large swathes of people in both countries felt left behind by the changes in society. For whatever reason those people have grown in number and in response, populists have wooed them and stoked their anger with lies and half truths.

I was tongue in cheek mate. It’s no coincidence. The same forces were at play on both sides of the Atlantic to gain support from those that you mention.

You can call me a conspiracy theorist but when the history of this period is written in 20 years time, the root cause of Brexit, Trump and Johnson won’t be too far away from the Kremlin, aided and abetted by weak opposition and a large number of gullible people who will be the last to realise they’ve been conned.

Yeah but we didn’t vote the fucker in, and start calling him the new Mercer, did we?

I’ve only ever written one complaint letter in my life and that was to Colin Barlow when we appointed Ball. Every word I predicted came true as well.

It’s not politics, they are the scientific advisors, they will have a scientific view , are you really happy to live in a country where the prime minister is not questioned and scrutinised and he can force his advisors into silence ?

They weren't asked a political question. They were asked whether they were fearful that this weeks events would mean people wouldn't isolate if they were asked to by the NHS....a simple yes or no isn't venturing into the political arena. Does that mean that "off stage" the behavioural scientists aren't considering the ramifications of Cummings' actions either? Just modelling likely public reaction like nothing happened.
