Leadership right there.
It's well and good to lecture people on what is right and wrong now that social unrest has boiled over and exploded. The time to be a firm leader for the suffering population was literally at any point before yesterday.
I think everyone understands rioting and destroying property is wrong but if peacefully kneeling was met with a wild, aggressive backlash, if peacefully marching was either ignored (at best) or outright ridiculed and mocked (at worst), then it stands to reason the population will feel nothing less than violence will get the point across that people have had enough.
