R numbers rising like a bastard across the country. Doubled in London to 0.8 and above 1 in NW and SW.
No scientist at today's briefing.
Death numbers still averaging 200-300 daily vs expectations that it would be in the low tens.
Worrying.

Could now fill 12 out of 20 Premier League stadiums with those who've passed away. Only 600 more figures wise alone till you can add Stamford Bridge to that list.

I believe we had more deaths in the UK yesterday than the rest of Europe combined, given today's numbers are still at 350 it will be damming if the same happens today.

I fail to see anything positive about how this has been handled

Worrying yes but this is something that we’re going to have to get used too and live with for a while.

we can’t stay in lockdown for ever - we just need to lockdown certain areas and be more vigilant with distancing rules.

there’s no point panic’ing everytime there’s a rise in the R numbers and other statistics- it’s inevitable

There is no plan how to lockdown 'certain areas'.
Not saying we can stay in lockdown 'for ever'.
Just that at this crucial time it might have been better to keep it in place until mid June.
Just as in early March a two week earlier lockdown at that crucial time could have considerably reduced the crisis and saved many thousands of lives.

That’s still not what it says.
What? In the Telegraph? The quotes are from the WHO representative.
The WHO website has so far just stuck a load of guide lines on how to wear masks. Time for them to come clean. Like the BBC and Guardien they'll pretend nothing happened.

Here's the Reuters article

Same quotes.

20% to 55% more cases and deaths in the UK as a result of their shit advice from major studies of how particles are spread when you breath, talk and Cough. PHE guidence has been just as shit from 2004.

You still have to wash/sanitise your hands and try not to touch your face - but where am I saying you shouldn't do that!

That's fair enough. I just worry that the message will be undertstood to be mask up and everything else can fall by the wayside.
The bit that needs to be mentioned as well though is that the countries that use masks are often the least affected but that also has a lot to do with the UK and the USA (especially the USA) are absolutely full of obese diabetics, often with some for of vascular disease, which does, along with age, seem to be the prime co-morbidities that turn this virus from a very mild cold to a deadly disease.

then everyone will cry and moan the politicians are in hiding
They should have been doing a 9pm short five minute threat to the nation outlining the main points of where we are and then saying how big the fines will be if the rules are broken.

Should have left the science to the scientists at 5pm

Well judging by the local youth, they've given up on social distancing and they aren't wearing masks either.

We need a government TV advert campaign I think.

Wrong on every level, look at dates of deaths not announcements. R below 1 nationwide, is ideal.

The youth don’t watch TV grandad! ;)

Needs to be all over social media, YouTube, Twitch etc if you want a chance of getting the message through to the youngsters.

This is not true. The Uk reports each day all deaths reported in the last 24 hours in all settings. Some of the deaths today happened in April and I think one in March. Spain for example used to report like that but now only report deaths that only occurred in the last 24 hours. That’s how they went from 280 deaths to zero overnight. Whoever is putting this info out there is talking complete and utter bollocks. It’s 100% fake news

Not wanting to put a downer on things, but reading WHO website, listening to their experts talk from various countries who are in contact with everyone creating a vaccine it sounds like a 3 to 4 year haul - by which time we'll have achieved herd immunity I expect. Even our very own Chris Whitty alluded to this quite early on, he has more qualification letters after his name than a Welsh village.

I remember his comment, and yes he is pretty qualified. I did comment on here that the only way this was to end is by achieving herd immunity. More likely than not now, judging by the easing of the lock down. This is also coupled hopefully by the reduction in the strength of the virus,as per the Italian doctors. As long as we see infections constant/declining without hospital admissions we are on the right path
