George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

I’m all for the protesting mate. Been behind it 100% , I think this Worldwide level has been amazing and bought justice against those racist police cunts, I prey that this level of protests we’ve witnessed can this time bring a more systematic change in not just the American police service but challenge fairness for black people in all walks of life. I’m sure it’s made a difference.

... what I’m against seeing today though, is hundreds of brainless twats violently attacking our police force for no good reason, smashing shops and looting.

I agree on the looting and smashing of property. I've had condemned it before.

I get the feeling most this stuff are just the opportunists, amongst our society, at hand. However, the rest of the rioting may just be about the continued 'stop and search' policy youth are subjected to, rightly or wrongly.

Not in this country it did'nt, sorry pal as much as I agree with all that is said about what those cops did, equally I despise that the lives of many here can be considered so unimportant....regardless of colour.

I wasn’t talking about our country.

I believe we should be peacefully protesting. That’s fine. But I know we have a small copy cat bunch of idiots amongst the protesters who will be desperate to riot and loot.

But it is happening here.

Those people doing their thing here could feasibly trigger a second wave of this bloody virus.

As for looting and rioting in the States that is for them to decide but I dont see the wanton destruction of property and damage to innocents business and property doing much to help anyone. At least front up and call it on with the government.

At the very start of all this, I felt the usual peaceful protests we’ve witnessed in years before has not been heard. It unfortunately needed more than a peaceful protest to bring charges against the cops and hopefully more enforcement law changes in the future
I understand your sentiment.
I felt similar. Not that I condoned the mindless looting, but I felt once the media had their next big story to follow that all the peaceful marching in the world wouldn’t change the system.
Trump’s Monday evening stroll and speech about domination tipped the scales for many in my opinion.

Him barricading the WH also. It is really showing the US how he promotes division.

He is losing military support and more and more people are being emboldened to demand change.

I would say that having Trump as POTUS doing what he does at this sad time, is as much a galvanising factor for fair minded people throughout the States and worldwide.

Same thing happening in Dublin.
Organised demonstrations walking from the city centre to the American embassy.
The police expressed concerns about the obvious lack of social distancing that inevitably occurred.

They want to do more. Not until the country enters whatever phase it is that allows mass gatherings, I say.

We’ve all been adhering to the rules and the country really doesn’t need to go into lock down again just as we’re looking to get back to normal.

I think there are other ways in the social media age to show solidarity.

About a month ago or more we had the whole road come out at 8pm to commemorate the dead and celebrate our frontline staff on duty.

We lit Chinese lanterns and released them. Let the whole country light a candle and come to the front door. As iconic images go it would be as useful as a march. Let a small group place a wreath at the American Embassy.

Sometimes with these marches, particularly over here in a different country, I just feel people have the look at me attitude. Look how much I care. There are other ways of protesting. I think particularly during a pandemic, the most effective has to be balanced with the least damaging to society as a whole.
I don’t have much time for virtue signalling.

Real nice of all these people to increase the risk to everybody here by continuing with these mass protests. Talk about self righteous views. I bet two weeks ago 100% of the protesters thought it right that Cummings should be sacked. Now they think its ok to act 100 times worse! Its truly pathetic.

Ok. you`ve told us what you think about the support protests because an American police officer kill a man in view of the camera.
I suppose you`re aching to tell us what you think of Cummings trip from London to the North with his family and the 60 mile round trip to test his vision.

Nothing against protesting for a very good cause but now is clearly not the time!

With regards to Cummings its smple pal, he should have been sacked straight away!

One thing that's begun to confuse me, George Floyd is an "African American." JLo (for example) is a "Latin American", Ken Jeong (for example) is an "Asian American"

But why are Trump (et al, for example) just "American"? Shouldn't they be European Americans? Or just everyone born in the states be "American"?

Astute, mate!
