George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

Karen, you are contradicting yourself. An apologist for those protesting. It really doesn’t matter whether it’s a tipping point, now is not the time.

These riots (protests, lol) are not ‘excused’ during a pandemic.

I’m getting really, really tired of people jumping in defending this yet slating Cummings.

Both are wrong, but fuck me it is double standard if ever I’ve seen it.

And not to stoke the fire, but Floyds killing imo was not racially motivated.
Sigh, cummings wrote the rules,he can't break them yet remain in charge, the public were incensed as every polll showed,it had a knock on effect

The killing of Floyd was every bit to do with him being black, really you need to look into how american have treated the black people in the country, police violence towards them is rife,a white man would never have been murdered in full view by a white police officer, the treatment of black people in America has been shameful, going back a long time

As for timing,if every tipping point in history had not been acted on there and then the moment would have been lost and no change would have happened

i am out as I just keep repeating myself as I try to answer everyone that quoted me

I understand and support their reason for what they are doing,i very much regret the timing and really hope there are no consequences

Football is a contact sport,it is also not important to have it on,it is not essential,if you think after over 3,000 tests only about 12 or so are positive then you are mad,the prem coming back is all about money,i suggest they are not being honest

I am mad, ? the testers are falsifying results.
You are saying the premier league are lying , telling players false results . Major criminal offence falsifying medical records.

Tablet time, 2 red , 1 blue.

Because...?

Stupid but I understand why they are doing it,this is their lives they want to change

What are they expecting to change?
Who are they protesting to and about?
What are the demands?

I’ve not met a single person who doesn’t agree that black lives matter

I agree now, I didn’t at the time.

It really is a fair way.

I think you’d be surprised at what goes into HR and recruitment now, the landscape is different from even a decade ago.

I don’t agree that unconscious bias is a thing, it’s very conscious when people do this sort of thing, in my opinion.

I don't work in recruitment so don't fully understand it. If someone has those biases then when someone different to them walks through the door they're still not going to pick them anyway.

Not falsifying ,that is very different to not being honest about the results,in the general population there are more positives being found in that sample size, footballers, coaches, physio's etc are all being tested, but only about twelve ,nah I am not believing that

Probably a lot of statues about celebrating 18th / 19th century industrialists that built schools, hospitals, theatres and libraries who's wealth was built on the backs of our native workers in mills and mines. In many ways no better or worse than Colston.

To be fair there has been several calls for things like mosley st to be renamed and robert peel and gladstone staues in town to be replaced with better people.

I used to love how they had to move the cromwell one because it was constantly vandalised.

Well yeah they have a vague idea of the new job matching what they really want and they realise after some time if it does or doesn’t.

We’ll have to agree to disagree in the compulsory part but we both agree the end goal of institutions and organisations reflecting society.

Yeah I don’t think exclusively having black people police black communities, it should be mixed but having some who grew up in that neighbour, return to police it, will make a positive difference.

In your view, how do you compare us to the States?
Reflecting society was attempted by the British armed forces around 2002 if my memory serves me correctly. I think at that time it attempted to recruit around 7% from ethnic minorities or rather what is now known as BAME community. Young black/Asian kids for whatever reason didn't want to join which is their prerogative however to get to the 7% target a massive recruitment of Fijians took place. Most who stayed are now coming towards their full service and a nice pension for them to return home, top soldiers, great Rugby players and served this country with distinction.

Protesting has always been the single most effective way to bring about change,it gives people a voice ,gives those in charge pressure to make changes

There's no comparison to the States, in this moment in time, to me in my life, right now.

If you'd have asked me 30 years ago, I'd beg to differ on it at all.

I have been profiled and followed, back then. I, once, noticed a car sat outside a pub watching me when I came out of it. When I realised I was being watched I returned the gaze. I made a motion to reach into my inside pocket and the guy slammed the car into reverse and done one. That action made me jump as it was so reactionary.

I was reaching for my chewing gum.

Nowadays, being married and off the club doors, I have little interaction with the police, so I'm on the outside looking in.

It would be unfair for me to compare as I don't have ears at street level, any more.

Karen, I have a lot of time for you on here, I really do.

But that is a load of bollox. You do this sometimes, where you go off on some weird mission that is far detached from normality.

I agree there is clearly an issue in America with the way black people are treated. Completely agree.

Bit imo this ain’t one of em.

Correct although sadly, im reading that despite that service they are not eligible for citizenship which is frankly a disgrace and needs to be looked at and amended.

It’s a good point mate. Research has shown that there are those with a slight prejudice, that out of a shortlist go for certain names but then can be persuaded once they actually meet people.

There’s a big thing in the recruitment industry currently with consultants ignoring applicants with foreign names, in case they may not have a strong enough visa or an accent that’s hard to understand. They’ll select the John Smith’s first and once exhausted, move onto the others.

They won’t ever be prejudiced enough to abuse someone or be negative in a conversation, it’s that initial bit of selecting a name to call.

Of course it’s a tiny minority but there’s been discussion on it, even prior to recent events.

Fair enough.

Im not going to quantify myself to you, because like I said, we will not agree.

Do yourself a favour. Back off it. Move on.

I have a different opinion and don’t need to explain to you the reasons why.
