George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

Just jumping back into this thread to give my two penny's worth.
The police officers ( involved in George Floyds death ) should be held account and subject to the highest standards of professionalism and of law.

The subject of race is becoming more apparent and what it means in this country and the world over.

I am a white working class man and i can not and will not be held to account for historical figures and symbols, some of which i think deserve recognition, which demand reparation or positive discrimination in this country.

I cant afford reparation and i believe in equality no matter what.
Colour is not an issue to me, but cunts are everywhere, even in downing street.

I think the fact white football mobs are mobilising and heading to London for confrontation as are ANTIFA / BLM would suggest so....

It is a sinister turn. There doesn't seem to be much space in this debate for those of us who want black people to get decent/equal treatment, protesters to be able to cause a bit of socially distanced disruption to make their point, and public order to still be upheld. It all seems to be headed towards a polarised pick a side and hate everyone else thing, like most debate in this country now.

Mate I had the same conversation with my brother today and I’m really worried about how polarised our society is becoming. And BOTH the left and right are every bit as bad as each other. There’s very little middle ground now. Traditional ‘right of centre’ are labelled “Nazi’s / racists” and “left of centre” SJW / Marxists. The echo chambers that these people love to dwell in shuts downs debate and either makes people more extreme or keep quite and save their anger for the voting booth.... that got us Trump, Brexit and Johnson....

Quite correct, this polarisation with people herded into two groups that hate each other is what trump and BJ feed on. Unfortunately hatred and resentment is much more easily mobilised than hope. These things tend to be cyclical - the main complaint 10 years ago was that there was no difference between the torys and labour, and we've had a few years of them screaming marxist / fascist at each other - it'll probably move back towards the middle soon.

It’s the internet in my opinion.

This board isn’t too bad as you can’t help but discuss topics with opposing views but on Twitter and other social media apps, you follow who you want and it creates echo chambers.

I’d love it, just once, for the public to fuck them both off and go for another party.

They’re victims of their own success and they serve only themselves and immediate friends.

Who says ANTIFA and BLM are ? if "tommy" is organizing his crew then he is the aggressor ,he just loves giving anyone without white skin a kicking,he has no right to include himself in a fight when the majority of the protesters are ,as always,peaceful

Agree but one thing. His first name is Steven I think. He copied his assumed name after watching the Football Factory film. He sets up videos on YouTube where one of his Nazi pals pretends to go for him and he throws a fake punch and pretends them to hurt them. This is what the National Socialism movement honed in the 1930s with similar propoganda. He couldn't fight sleep in other words.

PR is the only way to break that imho. We had the electoral reform debate though at the start of the Cameron coalition - as far as I can see the only concession gained by the Lib Dems other than maybe gay marriage? We all got a leaflet through the door saying vote for PR and you'll get powerless hung parliaments and disaster, or vote to keep things as they are and it'll all be ok. The rest is history as they say and wet Camerons appetite for solving other thorny issues with referendums and leaflets :-(

I know we all do it, but reading some of the hypocritical justifications in here for one set of actions over another has surpassed the same crap that people have been critical of in the American political threads.

Absolutely. 100 MPs maximum representative of the voting electorate. Whoever has the most appoints a PM and they work together. It's called consensus.
