Quite liked the careful way Robert Milligans statue was removed today.



Obviously as it's covered by the Guardian it is a load of contrived pseudo liberal attention seeking bollocks, but at about 30 seconds in the statue is placed facing his own now vacant plinth. It struck me as a great way to 'dethrone' and delegitimatise these statues without destroying them or denying our history.

Absolutely, and even if he hadn't served his time it's still not cool to murder him in cold blood, but he's almost being beatified as a martyr. I was raised a catholic btw, so no stranger to pretending bad people were nice just because they are dead - just an observation. I'm not seeking to say his murder was somehow mitigated, or people shouldn't protest because the bloke had a record like some of the loons.

They are just seeking to muddy the waters. Like I said, put the 'controversial' statues on the ground facing their empty plinths like naughty kids. Amend the brass plaques to give both sides of their story - not just the charitable works and the success in commerce and industry.
