I went to the skins festival in Leeds a few months back and Jarry Dammers did a DJ set, playing the Ska classics. A mate was the MC, whose a face in the black community as a DJ and a Carer. It’s getting a bit stupid if there is a blanket ban on anything to do with skins. I hope it’s getting sorted.

Statues are like knighthoods, given by the privileged to the privileged, often using public funds without public consultation. Don't care if they stay or go to be honest.

I feel exactly the same. They put up statues of people who made a fortune from human misery, they make privileged people lords. Knighthoods to people for doing a job, I/we don't have any say, so I couldn't give a fuck about statues. Pull em all down for me, I really don't care.

I didn't say keeping or erecting statues. I said study what went on and learn from it don't airbrush if out because you are offended. It still happened so take lessons from history for the sake of a better future

Now that Netflix has removed Little Britain and Come Fly With Me from its offerings because some characters were blacked up I take it they'll also be removing Coming To America in which Eddie Murphy whited up as an old Jewish bloke.

Other outlets may also wish to consider removing Lenny Henry's Live and Unleashed DVD in which he whited up as Steve Martin. Or maybe they'd simply do it because it's shite.

So showing anger at history that helped get us where we are today is futile. Celebrating those who were leaders in the fight against injustice is futile. Does that mean by extension that the protests themselves are futile, and maybe even abolishing slavery is futile, since neither of those things have eradicated "racism and racist acts" and only made racists angrier? What solutions do you propose? Or should we just ignore all this and move on assuming time will heal all wounds?
