14th June 1982

We went to Cala Bona, Mallorca, 2 weeks later. The joke going round in the resort was that all the glass bottomed boats in the area had been bought by President Galtieri so that he could review his Air Force! The World Cup was held in Spain at the time.

255 British lives
Approximately 650 Argentinian lives
And 3 civilians killed
any lives lost are tragic but less than 1,000 is quite remarkable

Couldn’t do it today.

Today no. But I thought the HMS Queen Elizabeth was very close to being commissioned with fighter/bombers.

Also the last time I heard, the Falklands already had a number of Eurofighters stationed there permanently as a deterrent.

323 Argentinians lost when the cruiser General Belgrano was sunk by HMS Conqueror. So almost half of Argentinian losses were at sea in one isolated incident. Even more remarkable really.
Who remembers The Sun headline to describe the Royal Navy action that resulted in over 300 Argentinian sailors loosing their lives.
