George Floyd murder / Derek Chauvin guilty of murder

This is why it isn't All Lives Matter or White Lives Matter Burnley. The third cop sneaks up behind the bloke and body slams him into the ground for absolutely no reason. Even if he had been the one that was wanted on warrant, he wasn't resisting arrest, arguing or causing any trouble, that should give the officers a clue about what kind of action to take. It really is a problem that will not go away soon.

Thoughts...?

Without knowing the circumstances in which he was granted bail, no. Potential answers range from ‘because the US justice system is fucked up beyond recognition’ through to ‘there was credible intelligence of a threat to his life from other inmates if he was not granted bail.‘

J. Alexander Kueng was released after his $750,000 bail was posted (not known how paid yet).

Thomas Lane was also released after posting his $750,000 bail through crowdfunding.

Both conditions are met, which includes no firearms, refraining from security or law enforcement work, and supervised release.

He was granted bail because that's how the legal system does and should work. Except for special cases, defendants are generally allowed bail.

Until convicted of the crime, he should not be spending time in jail without conviction. The whole point of bail is to guarantee you'd show up for your trial. You shouldn't be spending time in jail prior to your trial just because some lady in the store can't mind her God damn business.

Tired of these Karen's!

Well, this is horseshit, isn’t it?

That isn’t how bail works at all. There is a presumption in favour of bail, but every case is reviewed on its individual merits. The reasons why bail might be denied are not limited to absconding. They also include the potential for witness intimidation or tampering with evidence, the likelihood of further offences being committed whilst on bail, the seriousness of the offence charged and many other issues. An issue that may have arisen in this particular case is the risk to the accused if bail is denied (from other inmates).

You, like me and almost everyone else in this thread as it appears, apparently know nothing about the circumstances in which bail was granted. But hey ho, you announce that everyone gets bail “unless it’s a special case.”

Keep spouting your shite if you like, do forgive me if I don’t respond further.

Seems a fairly flimsy basis to grant bail in such a serious case. Be interesting to see if there’s more to it. It wouldn’t surprise me, frankly.
