The Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson told the Worlds Media and anybody else who cared to listen what was going to happen 2 months ago, much to the annoyance of both Liverpool FC and the Spirit of Shankly.

An LFC statement read: "As a club, we are aware of and disappointed by comments attributed to Mayor Joe Anderson in a media interview which was published today.

"As well as a lack of evidence to support such claims, we would also point to recent discussions with Mayor Anderson relating to the possibility of any behind closed doors football, which concluded that it is important that key stakeholders across the city continue to engage and work collaboratively.

"In recent weeks, we have engaged with supporters groups who have informed us of their determination to respect social distancing measures and, in the event of a resumption of football being announced, we would continue to work with them and other key stakeholders in keeping with our collective desire to achieve this crucial objective".

Response Statement to Mayor Anderson from the Spirit of Shankly

Thursday 30 April 2020 at 17:50

Spirit of Shankly are angered by comments made by Liverpool City Mayor, Joe Anderson.

The Mayor has chosen to speak out on a hypothetical matter, namechecking Liverpool FC supporters without discussion with those fans or fan groups.

There is no evidence to support the Mayor’s perception that Liverpool supporters will break any lockdown regulations and gather outside of Anfield should football be resumed and played behind closed doors.

SOS raised this issue with the club, back on 13 March, ten days before lockdown began. We agreed then a determination to respect social-distancing measures and, in the event of a resumption of football, we would continue to work together, along with other key stakeholders, in achieving this objective.

Rather than disparaging words about football fans, it would have been more beneficial for the City Mayor to acknowledge the work being done by those same people in easing pressures on the city’s old and vulnerable at this time. SOS alone up to now have delivered more than 1,000 food parcels, and are active partners in helping with the supply of PPE and @SFoodbanks

We ask the Mayor to retract his statement and work with fans to support all during this time of crisis.

Maybe next time they might listen

How did all these Chelsea fans sneak in to Merseyside unnoticed? Utter scum and let’s hope if they come here on Thursday the GMP treat them as the criminals they are and lock the fuckers up. Personally I would get the army on the streets for the next month and let them sort out all these idiots having raves, riots etc. If it means a few of the rioters are seriously injured then tough. Maybe send a message to everyone that this virus hasn’t gone and mass gatherings are wholly unacceptable. Let’s see how big and tough they are when faced with the army.

We can only hope that BBC North West Tonight report the silly scouse antics on Rogers shift tomorrow night!

We know you are watching Salford Quays

We await your swift response.

Edited for accuracy.

More smoke will be blown up the scouse arses. Nothing happened. Move along. They are scared stiff to report any negativity.

Joe Anderson if you're around please help.

Or just bring out new regs that require mass gatherings to be held in newly dug mass graves so once they are done just back fill it on them - saves time and money in the long run.

If anyone is wondering why li'pool get such an easy time with the media just remember the name Colin Mafham.
He was a freelance journalist but had a contract with the Daily Express. Immediately after the violence at the home leg against Roma, Mafham did a piece criticising Liverpool and their fans. One comment was …..
“always seemingly involved in such horrific altercations on big European nights”.
and he also said that trouble seemed to follow Liverpool like bees round honey.
Everyone kicked off including the Mayor. Mafham was suspended and then sacked.

The message is simple. If you want to keep your job, tow the line.
The guy wasn't wrong either. He told a few home truths, and they didn't like it. After their 'episodes' in the 80's it seems that criticising them is now off limits, and I really don't understand why.

The police being attacked whilst trying to help guy who had been stabbed.

Lost for words.

They are the worst fans in the world. Fuck the old minority bullshit, troubles follows them where ever they go. They are meant to be celebrating a title win, yet they’re smashing ambulances in, attacking police, stabbing people and setting buildings on fire.

Don't you mean BBC Merseyside. I have stopped watching because of the excess of items about that shithole.
