BBC licence fee

I just find it hilarious that, as a young girl of Pakistani origin, the moment she walked in they were ticking off her minority statuses, rather than treating her as an individual and judging her by her character.

This is what identity politics and collectivism does.

They must have been shocked when she revealed she was a conservative (not a Tory a proper one).

Doubt it. A lot of ethnic minorities come from socially conservative cultures so they are more likely than not to reflect the thinking and norms of that culture and in their family homes.

You are paying for something that is contributing to the social good and cohesion of this country. It’s an institution that is familiar to everyone in this land and in all four parts of this United Kingdom.

And no it’s not authoritarian or immoral or stealing. You can dispense with a TV and not pay the license fee. You can consume as much media as you like via phone, tablet etc. The only exception would be the BBC but you’re not paying it for it so meh.

I reject the notion of what you are saying the BBC does. It has some good programmes no doubt and it’s better than ITV or C4 but it’s not contributing to “social good” or “cohesion”. It has some decent tele from time to time but doesn’t do what it states it is doing, offering impartiality.

It’s certainly not anywhere near as comparable as sending children to school, that’s an absurd comparison, as is the health service.

It is about as authoritarian as you can possibly get when it comes to broadcasting in Wester society.

“If you want to watch an electronic device in your private home, that you own and is your property, you must pay us £157 a year for the privilege and we will send people round to your house to make sure you obey and if you don’t, we will charge you £1000 and you could end up with a criminal record, oh and our channel is number 1 and 2 on your TV guide”.

That’s state theft, I should be able to own an electronic device (that’s not a weapon), in my own home, choose what I pay for on it and decide not to pay for stuff, without the fucking state interfering.

They should have to compete with ITV and C4 and we should have the choice.

Black Conservatives are really problematic for the identity politics brigade. Just ask Larry Elder, Thomas Sowell and Candace Owens amongst others. The response of the anti racism activists? Call them Uncle Toms and coons, how ironic.

Can’t we just call them *checks notes* ‘Conservatives’ whose values we reject? Or in the case of Owens a ‘right wing nut job’.

Why should I have to get rid of my TV because the BBC want to charge me for something I don't use or want? They don't own the airwaves or indeed my TV. Again to look at who the BBC represent you have to look at who is defending it, and the answer is obvious.

I can have a TV and not have to pay the BBC, although the BBC enforcers seem to think otherwise.
You don’t have to get rid of your tele mate.

You can still watch all online and subscription non-BBC TV on your television. Either directly through your Smart-TV’s internet connection or by putting a HDMI cable through your laptop/tablet/phone, you can still use and watch your television and not pay a TV Licence, as long as it’s on Catch-up and that it doesn’t include the BBC.

Catch-up services for all of ITV, C4, C5, UKTV etc.; DVDs (or VHS if you still have them); subscription services like Netflix, Prime etc... are all valid to watch on your tele without a TV Licence.

What’s the difference between Catch-up and live?

Apart from sport the reasons for watching something live are meaningless. Catch-up TV is fine for any sort of programming outside a sporting fixture, and even then that doesn’t bother everyone.

You are free to reject it. Equally I reject your stance on the subject. A satisfactory conclusion to the issue has been reached.

They certainly are, and there's a lot of them, and it just shows the mindsets
of these so called anti racists when they describe people in those terms.

Did you listen to her interview?

Christ, no. I have no interest in the majority of clips posted. I assume the clip just emphasises the point the poster has made a hundred times already and will add nothing of value. People only post clips they agree with or that stokes their outrage.

If a poster posts a clip saying ‘this is contrary to my view and doesn’t necessarily change my mind but has some interesting points’, then I may watch as that would be interesting.

Well it was mostly a description of what happened when she went there.

I wanted to see if you agreed that’s a fit environment for a supposedly apolitical organisation.

It’s only a recent change to the TV Licence law. Maybe the last three years.

And you still have to have a Licence for watching live TV or recording live TV on ITV, C4, C5, UKTV etc.

But they all have Catch-up services that you do not need a TV Licence for.

This notion that people are forced to pay a TV Licence is false. It’s a choice.

I want to carry on paying it because I think the excellent output of the BBC would suffer as a result of going commercial. But, especially for those who don’t like not watch the BBC, they have the choice not to pay the TV Licence if they don’t want to.

Interesting. I really had no idea. I only watch on catch up but I’ll pay the fee anyway as I agree with funding the BBC.

Then correct the environment. People make assumptions, sometimes erroneous ones. Create an environment that challenges assumptions or refuses to accept assumptions as a default.
