Arsenal FA Cup SF Post-Match Thread

The same old problems from the beginning of the season, slow build up, wingers who fail to beat there last man, chances squandered, hit by breakaway goals. A Failure to have a plan B is costing us dearly. Always vulnerable unless we score the first goal. Relaying far too much on DeBruyne alone to open defences.

We also have wingers who always cut inside, that has a massive impact on the style you're talking about. When we had Sterling on the right and Sane on the left we were much harder to stop.
Them tap in goals were our trademark , quick play down the left , overload the box , square it , tap in for Aguero , Sterling :( , can’t even remember that happening this season .

It's not on this Thread,
Some People are just plain Stupid
My Wifes getting over it
Peps mum died from it
No excuses

Totally agree mate. Hope your wife is getting better. Wasn't trying to stick up for the poster. Hope it was the poster that quickly realized it was a crass comment and deleted it himself

I get a load of shit when I try to highlight how many problems we have with this squad. Can’t disagree with any of that.

I’ve been calling out Mendy’s crossing myth ever since he came back. It’s only now that people seem to accept it. - fully agree - been saying the same myself for a long time - he is a liability

Stones and Otamendi are finished. A kid that can barely run is even preferred to them. - agreed

Cancelo... not convinced he is better than Danilo never mind Walker, despite being valued at more than double Danilo’s price.- agreed

Bernardo has vanished and I’m sick of people blaming the Mendy tweet situation as he was playing shit before that tweet too. It’s been far too permanent a malaise for it to have any connection to the tweet. People don’t even talk about it any more. - Think there is still a player there - I woudl perservere with him

Gundogan is a liability, we know that, and worryingly Rodri hasn’t performed a whole lot better than him, if at all. - said it from nearly day one - awful and adds nothing

Aguero and Silva can’t press any more. People still see Aguero as untouchable in our team but I really don’t think he is, not at his current age and condition. He’s lucky that Jesus hasn’t nailed down the spot. We need a striker. Not to compliment Sergio, to replace him. He will drop off a cliff like Silva very soon. We would be wise to ensure he’s not still our go-to striker when that happens.Absolutely - Jesus isnt enough

Fernandinho is not the answer to anything. He’s 35.

£250m-300m investment needed. Unfortunately it’s likely to be too much for one window, meaning we’ll still be off the pace next season. It will take another summer on top of this one.

If we think this squad is fit for the coming seasons we are not going to achieve our goals. Do nothing, or just a few patch ups, and we will decline further for sure. We can return to being a dominant force but Txiki has to pull it out of the bag.

How the fuck did KDB stay on all game? I'd of walked onto the pitch and dragged him off by the ankles after 20 mins! Beyond shite performance, looked as though he's not played for 6 months!

he was shite, agreed. But he stayed on because he’s capable of a moment of magic and nobody else is

I know you aren't m8 shes getting better bit by bit
Thanks

Yes... so is David and he went off with 15 minutes left to be replaced by a DM... it was a though we were winning 2-0... very strange

Apparently the Laporte injury ruined our season and all would be fine when he came back.
Laporte is a fine player but our problems were always more than just him missing

I've just read the post match thread for when we lost the last semi against Arsenal at the back end of the 16/17 season as well as the draw against them a couple weeks earlier. I just wanted to assess the mood at the time and see how it compares to now.

Lots of pessimism there too. Posters asking why we're so bad at being clinical and the other team are. There were a few posters questioning De Bruyne's future, and after the cup semi a lot of posters were questioning Pep too. Some were even questioning the people above Pep. A few people demanding a sea of new players. More questions about refereeing than this thread. Lots of people questioning Sterling. People questioning the attitude and mentality. People thought highly of Jesus. Sané was divisive. Everybody hates Clichy. Everybody loves Touré. Interestingly there were calls for us to foul more.

The situations aren't the same, but I think the general fix back then was clear the deadwood and bring in some stars. I think that'd work now.

I am still wondering how we threw away the chance of another pot. Well played Mikel and Arse. Big changes needed, in mentality before the RM game, and in the squad going forward.

I think the reason I worry one window is not enough is that it encourages us to be too conservative in our targets. I worry that Ferran Torres is an example of that but could be doing him a disservice. Are we going for Ferran due to his contract situation and to save money for elsewhere due to the huge overhaul needed, or is he truly the right man? If it results in us not getting Havertz for example, would we not be better off playing a slightly longer game and splitting it over two summers and getting the big hitters? Maybe Torres is amazing and I’m being unfair on him, but when I see us looking at players with contract situations going on, I wonder if it’s because we’re trying to do too much in one go and are spreading this year’s budget too thin. Again, maybe Torres is incredible and it’s just too good a deal to turn down. You’ll have to let me know on that as I’m really not sure. I just know that I want Havertz!

Torres is supposedly the most talented player from Spains 2000 generation that beat Foden and Sancho's England at the u17 Euro's and then lost in the final of the world cup.

So he's a bonafide wonderkid and getting him for the fees being banded around would be incredible business IMO, if he wasn't running down his contract at Valencia then he'd be going for silly money.

He looks a shadow of himself since he's been back from injury, He's a top centre back, He's never going to be a commanding centre back though, Something we really need this summer.

Should’ve been changed at half time.

Team and tactics weren’t working & Arse were becoming more settled & confident.

Pep didn’t do enough to change what clearly wasn’t working or to introduce flexibility or variety.

Gundogan for Foden. Dave & Kev to play as deep lying inside forwards. Foden to play wide left.
Sterling to play along side Jesus. Walker to get beyond Mahrez.

More movement, more support, more variation and purpose.......not more of the same.

There was no variety to our play. Jesus was isolated twixt two big, physical centre backs all game. Our wide left man kept banging balls hopefully across the box or cutting it back to I’m Eric. Our wide right man only cut inside once to shoot with his right foot and never went outside to use his left.

Pep didnt swop his wide players positions once in 65 minutes !!

We can be brilliant when asking all the questions or get the first goal but quite ordinary when the opponent does.

It had shades of Wolves at home, rags at home in the cup and away in the PL, Spuds away and even Bournemouth at home.

What a bloody disappointing way to concede the cup.....again.

This one is down to Pep.

That’s reassuring then. In that case, to get such a player for about a 25m euro outlay with Herrera maybe used as a makeweight, really can allow us to do a lot with our budget this summer. I was concerned we were cheaping out a bit, but if that’s not the case then it’s encouraging. And a good start by Txiki.

Problem is he's come back and from day one he's been expected to be the main man whilst leading and controlling his partner in defense who, be it Stones, Otta.. whoever... is having serious issues of their own. Laporte should be being allowed to play his own game and gradually ease back into gear and up his game. Stating the obvious but if he'd come back into the team with Vinny next to him, it would have worked perfectly... we can all dream !!!
