How good were Pink Floyd?

I really like the track Ibiza Bar, maybe a few others too. But that’s about it.

Phenomenal. Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and The Wall - 3 albums of the highest calibre. Whilst not that great vocally, in David Gilmour they had a wonderful lead guitarist, Richard Wright had an ear for adding some great harmony and melodies, Nick Mason was decent with the sticks and of course the catalyst was the craftsmanship, timing and creative talent of Roger Waters. The internal turmoil and rage in and around them just added to the dramatic tension that enveloped the band from the moment when they abandoned their best friend and founder in pursuit of material success.

I think its harsh to say they abandoned Syd Barrett. He was going down an avenue of LSD and mental illness but also acted erratically in stage and during interviews, he failed to turn up for recording sessions and became completely unreliable as a functioning band member.

They gave him enough chances but he had to go.

Oh yeh, and 'Goodbye blue sky' is my 'favourite' most depressing song ever written.

The most atrocious attempt at wumming I think I've ever seen on here, kudos.

Look I’ve heard a couple of songs on radio in the past but I have never ever listen to the album in full. Think if your pissed up when listening you’d think it’s a top 10 album! I don’t know must have something to do with the genre you like.

I've got a mouse
and he lives in a house
I don't know why I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old but he's a good mouse.

Yep sometimes weed helps, otherwise you might think wtf.

Threads like this make me laugh.

Ultimately who gives a shit if people don't like the or understand why they are successful? The band members sure as shit don't. The Wall and DSOTM are said to have sold 75 million copies between them so they've definitely got something in addition lots of money in the bank.

I loved the Syd Barrett stuff, then lost interest. Genesis and Yes have been my favourites ever since.
My brother bought the first album way back in the late sixties. It was dominated by Syd Barrett.
I was about 16 and played it to death.
I wasn't keen after that, they got rid of Syd. Then I heard Yes and Moody Blues.

Not enough love for the album Animals......brilliant
Only this! This is the masterpiece that got me into the Floyd.

It is incredible to me that there are people who don't like Pink Floyd. I mean, each to their own and all that but... it's Pink Floyd for fuck's sake. We're not talking about Oasis or Northside or whatever here.
