Again, I will never understand how rational people can think that pointing out both strikers have struggled in big games over 2 seasons, and it's a team issue, not and individual one, is "discrediting" one of them.
I don’t disagree with what you’ve been saying on the subject of Jesus, this thread is littered with comments from other posters constantly bringing up Aguero to try and show Jesus in a better light.
I just think it’s unnecessary because they are completely different players.

Why have you put the brackets for sergio and not for gabby
Because people say every single time "well yeah, the numbers might be similar overall but Sergio always shows up against the big teams". Even happened a page or two ago. And it's not been true for a while now. The numbers look the same for both players, so eithers there's a problem with both not being good enough, or its a team issue and its unfair to go after Jesus for it.

That's just a reaction to 1,000,000 comments comparing him to Aguero negatively and saying he'll never be able to succeed him.

Obviously when Jesus' detractors have long set Aguero as the standard he has to live up to, people pointing out stuff he does as well or better are going to compare it to that standard.

I’ve made my thoughts clear on how highly I rate Jesus, and I hope he will be here for a long time.
This need from people to compare him to Aguero constantly wears thin though. Both completely different players with their own positives and negatives. It smacks of people so desperate to prove how good Jesus is that they are willing to try and discredit arguably the greatest CF in premier league history.
Pretty shaky ground if you ask me.

People can be so unbelievably harsh about any player. I was reading through the post match threads for the last time we lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup three years ago and the way people were writing about De Bruyne and Silva would look awful in hindsight. At the moment people are being very harsh about Mendy more than anyone. Look how City fans have aggressively TURNED on Bernardo, who clearly needs support.

This however is the most annoying of threads. Jesus gets criticism, and many times it's deserved. But with Jesus people have a NEED to go out of their way and write why he'll never make it. People can't say, 'Oh he wasn't great today'. It's, 'Oh he wasn't great today and he never will be'. In the process to make their point, they will deify Aguero and act like he's never done anything wrong (similar to Fernandinho should be in DM discussion this season). "Well Aguero would have just dribbled around all 6 defenders and chipped the keeper, therefore Jesus is shit". I mean we all know how good Aguero has been and still is in fact, but making stuff up doesn't help. Unfortunately, in response you'll get some folks dragging Aguero through the mud to showcase how a negative quality of Jesus isn't so bad, and yeah that's irritating too.

What stings the most is two things. Firstly, this thing is ridiculously partisan. Jesus does something bad and it's, "Well Aguero would have done that right". Every time. But then Aguero cocks up and you have different people say, "That's it, we need to move on, promote Jesus". Secondly, 3 years ago all these comments were the same but in reverse. "Aguero's done, here's why Jesus blah blah blah." So the fact City fans can be so fickle is maddening.

And finally, the reality is, people just need a scapegoat, and people like to big up who's not on the pitch when we lose. Cancelo and previously Danilo are world beaters whenever Walker has struggled. Danilo is still being overrated despite not setting the world alight at Juventus. Foden is always the answer, except when he isn't. Sané's faults all disappeared last season. And when Jesus struggles, it's because he's not Aguero.

As dom says, it's almost certainly a team issue, but that would be complicated to shout at the tele, so we just slag the players off; there's no loyalty at times. So people criticise Jesus for not being Aguero because it's easy, and unfortunately some people go the other way because it's easy to. It's akin to the crappy punditry we all complain about from SkySports or BT. Lazy.

Don’t disagree with any of your points, I understand exactly why the constant comparisons are made but it doesn’t make it any less irritating to read.

It’s just human nature in a nutshell. After a while, you take it all with a pinch of salt.

They can never be the same (Aguero & Jesus). Both have their own traits which have varying effects on the team. Only thing one can do is support the lad.

It’s normal to be incensed by performances. More so when you’ve seen a glimpse of what he’s fully capable of. However, we have to give them their due praise without bashing another when they do well.

I just cannot understand what kind of fan sees us win 4-0 with some great performances, but their first thought is "Quick, better run to the Jesus thread to dish out some abuse for being an inch offside in the 95th minute".
Isn't Pep like that - critical of the team and points out areas of improvement when we win, but backs the players and goes completely over the top in appreciation when we lose?

There's a difference between saying, 'Oh you could have been a bit better there', and 'You're shit, you'll never make it with us'
