As I said at his funeral, it was the greatest gift my dad gave me. He was proud that he went fishing on his wedding day and (later) took my brother and me in our carrycots when he was supposed to be looking after us. I fished over his ashes in Ireland last week. But he never sent me a bream bless him.

I go angling now with my son 13 and my dad 73 . Me and dad look at each other and smile. 3 generations of fisherman on the bank.

it’s in the blood.

Went trouting on the Wye, as there is no chance of a salmon.
No trout, one grayling and 15 chub to 4lb in an hour on a GRHE.

Saw 2 dead swans.
I also see there was another major pollution incident on a Wye tributary with many fish fatalities, including salmon parr.

Everybod
went up to Sandbach today, a place called field farm fisheries ,fished the sandy pool, beautiful fishing complex, the lake was pretty busy full of carpers and alarms, however i was there to try and beat my PB carp (16lb) so the lake was beautiful ,the weather was perfect, the lake held a good head of carp upto 26lb ,also held cats upto 44lbs,i got there early picked the perfect peg,the scene was set for me to smash my PB ,i threw in £20,000 of bait in,i cast 3,000,000,times, and i got a BIG FAT BLANK
still,i had a lovely day,the lad i usually fish with couldnt make it because he had hurt his back, but he surprised me with a greggs sausage roll and a yum yum :)
defo go again, even though i didnt catch its such a beautiful place i just didnt care
everybody blanks. That’s why it’s called fishing not catching. It makes the successful days even better.

Some of us have a great deal of practice using it. ;-)
you know I'm never too down when i blank, as you say its part of the game, also i think its a great learning curve, gets the grey matter going, if you sit there pulling them out one after another it really isn't any fun, but having a bad day, coming up with something a little different and bang you land, now that is fishing.

once fished a pool near Jodrell bank, and im not lying if i said i had 10/15 fish in the first hour, i packed up after a couple of hours bored.

I will blank at least 2 or 3 times in a season. The only time I get a bit down is in a competition if others are catching well. As we are in a boat it’s up to you to find fish, unlike course fishing competitions where you are allocated a peg and it’s a matter of luck if it’s good or poor. It does make you think what could I have done better or differently, particularly when you feel you have fished poorly. That applies even when you catch though. I was in a boat earlier this season and my partner beat me 11-2. Now that certainly made me think. On the face of it we were fishing similar flies and lines so there was obviously something in his presentation that the fish preferred. Every day is a school day when you fish!

It can get you down catching Sticklebacks I suppose :)

Heading for a blank fishing Llyn Brenig in a boat last week, needed a rest, left the fly in the water, next thing reel is running out, decent trout on the end !
Usually happens to me when having lunch! Cast the buzzers out, pick up sandwich, trout takes. Its like they know :-0
Have a couple of mates that are fishing Brenig soon. Final of the Sierra pairs I think.
