I think there is making enquiries and buying on the cheap or bumping the price for others if you can and then there is going balls deep for a player you really need.

I dont see us going balls deep for any of the above.

Aouar and carlos are very easily within the budget. Almost easy deals I reckon. Martinez, can’t see us touching that one unless the valuation significantly drops. Much better to find a striker once the market settles and more targets are available. Seems like a simple window.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we are signing Latauro Martinez, one of Aouar or Grealish, and Diego Carlos.

Is Martinez the ‘brucey bonus’ you hinted at?

Agree - the price is only part of the deal. The squad list (we have some wriggle room for the first time in ages so lets not fill it full of dross) and the wage bill are of more importance.

Carlos has one year of playing in La Liga, no Champions League experience, and I don’t think he’s even played for Brazil. He’s older than Stones, Laporte, and Ake but arguably less experienced on the bigger stage than the other three.

Might be a decent player but not the answer to our problem.

If we signed Martinez, Aouar and Carlos and sold Otamendi and Garcia we would have a full squad.
17 foreign, 4 association trained (Stones, Walker, Ake and Sterling) and just Foden as club trained though he is under 21.

I would think we should try and move Zinchenko for a new left back as it’s a glaring weakness in the squad.

Mendy really needs to get his act together and start performing on a regular basis.
