I’m currently on ‘garden leave’ until early November when I start my own business.

I do a lot of running and generally listen to footy podcasts. However, now I’ve got a lot more time on my hands and I’m burning through my usual repertoires and I’ve switched to audio books. I’ve just finished “finding ultra” by Rick Roll.

Can anyone recommend any decent listens? I’m pretty open to most things but I prefer real life stories to fiction books. I’ve listed things I’m interested in below

Football
Sports
Business
Endurance events
Politics
Real crime

any recommendations appreciated.

**ideally looking for audiobooks so I can listen whilst run

Whatever takes your fancy...they're books. I listen to a lot of them, in my work shop and long drives, love em. Recently been listening to an author named CJ Box, (library doesn't have the best choice), they're ok, all take place near where I live

There are a number of good books about Mount Everest, and the fateful summit attempts of 1996. Into Thin Air by Jon Krakhauer is excellent. Ed Viesturs has written a good book in which he details his mission to conquer all the 8,000m+ mountains. I'm not into mountaineering, but these true accounts are fascinating.

The Long Walk by Slawomir Rawicz is about a guy who escaped prison in Siberia, and walked across the whole of Asia to freedom. It is supposed to be a true story, but is unverified.

Into thin air was a great read, exhausting! Krakhauer also did a great expose on the Morman church called 'Under the banner of heaven', well worth a read if you get a chance. Also 'into the wild' is a good book, a true story about a guy who was eaten by bears in Alaska

So stories about redneck beardy guys with guns and banjos in their pick-up trucks.
Everything based around the Roadhouse bar with some good ol boy band on stage decked out in check shirts and Wrangler jeans ?

Haha. I've listened to the Sherlock Holmes books so many times. The Stephen Fry recording is good, but the best in my opinion is the version recorded by John Telfer.

For a history book, This Sceptered Isle is an interesting listen. Written by Simon Schama.

I also listen to children's classics such as The Railway Children, The Secret Garden, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit, and the Harry Potter books. Lee Child's Jack Reacher books are an easy listen too, but a bit samey after a few.
