Champions League Quarter Final Games 12-15th August

Of course he was. They had no possession, he was surround by 4+ players the moment he got the ball with no one around him, there were no runners on the wings to pass to.

It's like when people criticise our striker when we just bombard crosses into the box and nothing happens...what did you expect? It's a 5'9'' guy surrounded by 5 defenders and a keeper with no support.
I get that his game was lessened because of the lack of movement around him.

But also he lost the ball ALOT and gave Bayern countless counter attacks.

He isnt the biggest issue in that team, but he personally made alot of mistakes aside from the system around him.

Messi going off the books would actually completely save them financially, he costs them minimum €100m/year without bonuses, and he always gets bonuses.
It won’t completely save them. I have it on good authority that they have significant cash flow issues, even apart from Messi’s contract.

Some of that is due to the impact of COVID, but quite a lot of it is due to poor financial management and recruitment decisions over the past few years.

I'll bet Bayern wish they'd saved that performance for the semi-final. Difficult to reproduce that against anyone, let alone a team that won't throw in the towel with half-an-hour to go.

That performance was largely due the state of their opponents. If they played a team like us Liverpool or PSG they could have quite easily have been 4-1 down in the first 12 minutes. Barca should have been winning that game early doors albeit playing atrociously themselves.

the size of the victory may play into our hands.. yes riding the crest of a wave and confidence is one thing but hopefully the fact they won by such a great margin playing like that will lull them into a false sense of security.

play that high line against us and we or Should I say Eddie will murder them.

We have an absolute cheat code against that Bayern set up.. surely they won’t play like that against us though and will sacrifice high press / risk reward for a more measured approach. Would be suicide if not.. I want them to play exactly like they did tonight.

They will be financial stretched regardless if they get Messi and a few other high wage players off their books.

They are in a very precarious financial position, hence why they are seeking such a substantial cash injection via private loan. The public reasoning for it is not accurate/complete.
Imo, stretched is like a Milan AC club. Barça is still investing 100 M+ every year on the market. Of course, they are taking loans because they have no cash but banks are giving them the money anyway because of their commercial turnover.

They really just need to reign in their wage bill.

Once in a decade Barcelona was known the be good, then Bartomeu come and strike his force soured up to se his team lose 8-2 to Bayern.

I despise the German rags, so that gives me extra motivation for the Lyon game.

Come on City. Focus on what is in front of you, get through that and then it’s over to Pep.

Bayern looked very good tonight and for me are the best team in the competition. They are excellent going forward but can be got at defensively...a bit like us really.

I was watching them and thinking about how they can hurt us and while we all know about their front three, what impressed me and concerned me in equal measures, was the forward runs off the ball their midfielders made. Given the opportunity, I can see them running off Rodri and Gundogan for fun and causing us a lot of problems.

However, let’s earn the right to play them, before we worry too much about them. We have a job to do tomorrow first.

It will. We have the energetic lads playing and It’ll be a game. That high line is waiting for Kevin. Raheem’s and Foden’s off the ball movement and prime and ready. That’s if they beat Lyon. Need to be switched on tomorrow to avoid any surprises.

I love Foden but it would be a very big decision to play him against this Bayern side. Maybe as a winger but we just watched de jong get turned inside out trying to defeat that press. It’s be a big ask of such a young player on a big stage.

I would hope we’d setup better and be more energetic against Bayern but we need to respect what we just saw. That Barca side is remarkably similar to ours and Bayern have precisely the clinical edge we lack. Barca had a chance to take a lead there in the first half but squandered a few then watched Bayern pummel them. The small mistakes which have plagued us this season simply cannot happen if we make it to play them.

I believe they have cash flow issues. We know that they are making such losses and the wages/revenue are so hight that the board actually arranged the artur/pjanic swap in order to just avoid failing a rule which would have meant each boardmember having to pay 2m euros each fine.

I find it hard to believe those issues would not be resolved by €100m a year being taken off the books on top of a transfer fee though. We are after all talking about 15-20% of revenue going to Messi.

that sounds like a Churchill speech after he’s injected the best brown since the railroads were built
Lol I was just reading so many cowering or overconfident posts regarding your possible upcoming match with Bayern and just wanted to say "Thank fuck your team's performance doesn't depend on what's being written on here!", but in a more polite way given that I'm a guest on here.

As bad as Barca was, that was some display by Bayern. If we beat Lyon tomorrow, we have to have a perfect game against them. But going by the teams left, Bayern are huge favorites to win the whole thing. Just hate it that it's the german cunts and not any other team. Hate them to the core.

Yep. One game at a time. Personally I don’t fancy us against Bayern with our defence. You never know though.
