Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

What I love most about when we lose is I get to see so many posters I don’t usually see!
Shit performance, shit game, shit everything not much else to say.
I’m glad that was the last games as it should serve as a reminder we are far from good enough but at least we have the summer now to fix it.

Either way I’ll be here next season CTID

Gundogan, rodri and 3 CB made it sure we dont have enough going forward. Lyon are not stupid, they defended very well especially as we were not able to put enough pressure on until 2nd half.

Havin Walker as wingback not helped, he was still scared to really attack as Depay with pace was there also Cornet.
Cancelo made some runs but his crosses ended up going out for a throw in on the other side.

What the plan should have been instead is to start extremely high energy attacking game to score early to make sure they cannot grow into their planned game "sit back and counter".
We actually helped them to do that with hardly having any meaningful shots in first half.

Score one in first 10 minutes, let them give up their plan, open up, start attacking and start countering.

Why we gave 45 minutes to Arsenal and Lyon without attacking them? I think thats why we lost both FA and CL. Why we need a HT team talk and couple subs around 60th minute to start fighting for it?

Pep played a team set up to fear Lyon, instead of making them fear him. He got what he set out to do.

im reminded of the scene in “All or Nothing” where he talks about playing with courage. He didn’t and a better manager, with a better plan, beat the better team today. That’s coaching!

Pep and the executives remit is to win the champions league, could be a hiatus moment , to have most of his best flair players have to sit and watch that balls up was ridiculous, Gundogan gives nothing to the side ,he moves the ball around safely in irrelevant areas hurray,if Gundogan was playing for the opposition you would be contemplating sprinting past him every 5 minutes which is what happens, the midfield wasnt working in the first half and the first sub should of been around 25 minutes

Am still completely gutted 2 odd hours after the result. I'm stumped as to why we decided to change our formation against Lyon, I could understand it if it was Bayern but not Lyon. We knew what they were going to since we got past Real Madrid. I've wondered since if Pep got spooked by our losses to Wolves etc which were much the same as this morning's loss and thought with 3 cb's it would negate that side of it. Instead it didn't and Gundogan and Rodri together left way to much to De Bruyne to do, and for the first half De Bruyne was to high and couldn't dictate the game as he does when Silva, Foden or Bernardo are in the line up.

It's a massive off season from here, we need to get a centre half sorted as quick as possible, after Sterling's and Jesus misses tonight a quality striker is a must. Aguero hasn't got long left, and another midfielder would also be needed plus a left back. Cancelo while doing well at left back, by cutting inside all he did was congest the space for Sterling, De Bruyne etc.

Whilst I'm pissed off at Pep's line up, he's still the man for the job, and we have to back him in the off season. It's a big 3 week period now until the new season starts and we can't waste it

Yeah I wonder what would he have tinkered for bayern. He changed big for Lyon game, he might started all of Zinch, Mendy, Cancelo, Walker, Ota, stones, garcia, Ferna, Laporte to contain bayern?

might have started bravo to nullify the lack of long shots, who knows.

Gundogan starting, seriously? Biggest game this season? Starts again. Dont want to hear off some how great he is. He ain't, and Pep fucked up by starting him. Other errors and VAR didn't do us any favours but what the fuck, our squad should have pissed this game

It's very bizarre really is pep pragmatic away in the CL? No he plays the game according to his beliefs. Then we play the French equivalent to West ham and he goes for the slowest midfield in history.

A bad decision. Laughable defending. Shit keeping and we are out again. I started a thread about pep being at the end of his cycle and got pelters.

Best shush because it's here. Whatever tools you give this guy in Europe he is a failure.

As much as I hate Munich, I hope they batter Lyon purely for the pathetic play acting and diving they did. How the ref did not book the guy who spent most of the game on the floor for his pathetic dive to try and get a penalty is beyond me.

Surely its offside and certainly it’s a foul. It’s not like he’s just left the ball and made no attempt to go for it. He’s actually had to adjust his legs to let the ball go between them

VAR and UEFA fucked us over twice in the same incident. Not a chance does the goal stand if it had been at the other end
3rd year in a row at the QF stage Var and/or officials have screwed us.

So we are ending the season with a single trophy. Oh two....Carabao and community shield. Wow

That's very Raggish , did you know 80 odd of the clubs in the four divisions win f*ck all every year, you can bet your bottom dollar if the Rags or Villa had won the Carabao Cup it would be massive , maybe we have been spoilt.

No we were not done by var. We were done by Peps tactics. We were leading at home, we could have completely shut shop and held on. Once again he over thought the tactics.
we missed a penalty at Spurs in the first leg, that didn't help, but the home performance was fantastic and any other year before var we would of created one of City's great escapes. But the performance tonight was a mess, the confusion on the pitch created mainly of the pitch.
