Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

He is called the best manager in the world and maybe rightly so BUT he has made so terrible errors this season and he is not above severe criticism.
Last night was appalling, we went out weakly , a shadow of the team we know we are. I don't find that acceptable.

To me football is a simple game, you always play your strongest team, you give 100% commitment. If you match the opposition for commitment your greater ability will always come to the top.

Last night we surrendered to the 7th best team in France, yes the 7th , not Bayern, Not Real, Not Liverpool but Lyon the 7th best team in France.

Pathetic and any manager whom selected that side last night and left the likes of Silva, Bernardo, Mahrez and Foden on the bench and selected a 19 year old kid who has already told us that he no longer wants to be at the club should be absolutely hammered, whoever he is and whatever is reputation is.

Those tactics last night will have done a lot of damage in the dressing room, the like of Bernard and god forbid KDB must be doing a lot of thinking this morning.

Agree with all this, I fear next season will be more of the same as well but I really hope I’m fucking wrong.

Without being callous, I would like for City players and staff to go away and think about that performance and missed opportunity for 2 months. Disappointments and ridicule often drive you on but we don't even have that. New season is weeks away.

Not looking forward to it. We need time to lick wounds and recover. Decisions have to be made. There is not time and space to do anything

Imagine your KDB or Bernado and you think about that game. You think about your future at the club and you wonder if we get to the same position again whether the coach will crack.

This defeat will have ramifications. Pep needs a week or so and then he needs to extend or resign.

he had to replace four fullbacks over thirty for a start, short memory you have there
I know, but some fullbacks he got are already gone as we speak, and have had to be replaced too (ie. Danilo, for whom I held high hopes when he arrived).

Also, the money spent on full-backs is only one part. He spent nearly a billion in the transfer market since he arrived (£943 millions to be precise), and not managing to at least once get to a CL semi-final isn't good enough imo. He did well enough in the league, especially last year, but in Europe?
What club do you support?
I don't think I need to answer that question, it's a bit insulting to be honest.. you can support a team and still voice critic if you see something. I'm not calling for him to be sacked btw.

Be interesting to see who takes the Barca job, not saying for one minute pep would go back there but if say ex spurs boss poch takes the gig, then there is one candidate for taking over from pep gone
Pep needs a break from football imo. The pressure is crazy and he's clearly completely consumed by it. Overly so.

In that case we should part now. You can't go into a coaches final season and not know whether he should take us forward. We have to sit down with him and have a conversation about the season, and the key moments.

I think he's probably suffering from mental exhaustion.
Fergie did and won the league

I don't always agree with you, but you are spot on.

KDB and Berardo great players who want to win the biggest prize of all, will they do that under Pep at City, sorry to say I have severe doubts and I am sure they do.

I tell you what, Harry Redknapp wouldn’t have picked Gundogan and left David Silva, Bernado Silva and Phil Foden on the bench. Absolutely no chance.

Guardiola has decided he’s going to play Gundogan in every minute of every single Champions League game. Fuck what’s best for City. He’s going to do what’s best for his ego. Prove himself right.

4 times on the spin he’s been directly, completely and entirely responsible for us going out of the Champions League.

Instead of playing the way we’ve been super-successful, he’s decided when it comes to the Champions League he needs to make it about him. He wants the attention. Fuck what’s best for City, he’s going to do what’s best for his ego.

And he has the fucking cheek, time after time to lay the blame at the club. “This club will one day break the cycle of never being successful in the Champions League”.

But it’s not the club’s fault. The club have given him everything he could possibly need to be successful in the Champions League. But he’s decided to make it all about him so people can laud him for his genius.

Four times is just too many. He’s not going to learn, he’s not going to change. We’ve missed a golden opportunity. For the previous two seasons we were the best team in Europe. We should have won it. We might never get that chance again because we’re in serious regression while Bayern and Liverpool have comprehensively overtaken us.

Time for new ideas and less ego.
Agreed completely.
His ego why he won’t sign an established, solid CB to replace Vinny, his ego why he won’t sign a top striker to replace Kun next year, his ego why he changes to an I played formation in a massive game, his ego why we have so few youth players getting game time and lost Sancho, Diaz, Garcia.

No wonder he only usually manages teams for three years.

To be a leader you have to take people with you. They need yo have faith in you, sometimes blind faith when they don't understand the whys but do it anyway on trust. He'll lose that.

There needs to be a post-season discussion before players and coaches go their separate ways. IMO he's done. He fell apart at Barcelona and needed some time out. I think the moment may have come again.
TBF it is not beileader or any stuff,
Man Utd spent more or less similar amount to City over the last 5 seasons. Look what we have won and the players we have compared to them. Even now in this moment our players are superior.

This comparison irritates me though because for the first time since the takeover they are rising and we are falling.

City fans always think about the club but rarely understand it because it is impossible but I trust those involved are sitting down and digesting this season. No room for complacency.

I don't think we should keep comparing City to United, if United are "Shit" its their problem and shouldn't be a standard

For what City invested in players we should get more.

I ask myself the backline costed a lot of money what would have happened if City signed less exoensive back line and instead invested heavily in one or two top players?

Maybe there are deficiencies and errors with City's general football operation but never has a City coach had such a group to work with. I can't see how Pep arrived at that starting line up which cost us that game. He migh point to other things that happened in that game but in our biggest game he failed to prepare the side properly. He wasn't just a bit off, he was miles off.

This game could poison everything.

The best possible news this summer would still be a new long term contract, allowing him to build a new side with some younger players over the next 2 or 3 windows

I'm glad to hear him talk about a lack of pace at the back. If we can solve that and revitalise the middle of the park (eg. Thiago AND Aouar) last night's mess will become a distant memory

City tried to sign central defenders but Utd bought the only player we had a definite view upon and who was under consideration.

I do think Pep should move on now but transfers are not the issue. It's more basic than that. he's micromanaging and missing the big picture. I think he looked at the Lyon games and tried to address what Lyon did in those games, and he was affected by other CL losses. Whatever his thinking spectacularly imploded on us.

I suspect this to be true. It's unfortunate, but the pressure of expectation is immense at this club these days, and any man will feel it over time.

We had Foden and Bernardo. They are very talented players but he deliberately chose Rodri, Fernandinho and Gundogan. He focused on all the damage that Lyon had done in recent games against us and totally lost the plot.

still love the guy and would be happy if he extended tomorrow. He has served up the best football we have ever seen as city fans and we are lucky to have him
We were lucky to have him but is he a flawed genius with a widening crack?

City wasted time for the majority of the game by needlessly passing about when a goal down, had a bit of bad luck but where generally toothless. Same as the Arsenal game, they try and treat every game the same and fail to perform in the big games.

The Pep way can still work though, look at Barca still the best team in the world.

I agree in part. He does need to look at the opposition. We lost against Liverpool two years ago because we played the same system that works against 90% of teams, a high line with attacking wingbacks, which isn’t suitable for a game against their front three. He adapted to that the following season.

If we’d got through last night we’d have been wise to seriously consider Bayern Munich’s style. So we were right to last night.... but you can adapt without changing to a brand new formation, a never used before defensive 3, less midfielders than normal, etc.

I wasn’t saying that transfers caused everything, his transfer purchases are just another sign of his ego.
I think his high line frequently puts us in a risky position, and against fast forwards we concede and lose.
