Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I’m happy to show more patience during the transition.
It is the end of an an era , for sure.

Sit back , try to enjoy the ride and try to be patient is my mantra.

This is a rebuild which commenced with the spine of the defence this summer.
We will learn more about the players this year than any other.

My thoughts :-

Mendy
Jesus
Mahrez
Bernado

can all be moved along for me

Bernardo hasn't been given the chance to shine so I am not sure why he should be moved on.

What would a new manager do?

He would make us more of a attacking threat.

How would he do that?

He will create tactics that will give our forwards good chances to score.

Oh wait....
Our finishing has always been poor in the Pep era, but we just we created buckets full of chances in every game and the missed chances were quickly forgotten.

Now we create few clear cut chances and the same players keep missing them, only now those misses are proving very costly.

If this was a transition period as you state I would hope that would provide some more glimmers of hope.

We aren’t playing any young players or giving them bench time so it can’t be stated we are bringing them through so trusting youth to develop and come good.

This season we are clearly playing more defensively and pep talks about controlling the game, this seems to be more of a risk averse tactic where players do the simple things like not losing possession anywhere on the pitch to avoid counter attacks.

Also this transition, what was last season classified as?

This sudden stating that we have loads of average players annoys me.

Torres got a hatrick for Spain recently, foden got 2 for England, Sterling is world class but out of form, Jesus is Brazil’s number 9. De Bruyne is a top 3 player in the world, Bernardo has proven before he can win games by himself and was adored 18 months ago, gundo and rodri both start for their respective country’s. We have genuinely world class cbs where Laporte is now 4th choice.

If you compare that against a crap West Brom team then it’s no excuses and with the attacking talent we have it’s wasted.

It will take more than 200m to put this team/squad right.

100m plus for a striker alone and the same again at least to sort midfield and we need at least one high class wide player.

The answer to this problem isn't to throw money at it. That won't fix anything - the whole team are showing the same symptoms more or less.

The vast majority of the players available to us are of the right kind. A few tweaks are needed, in midfield most notably, and that is it.

You can't polish turds and we have too many at this time.

Agreed you don't have to throw money, just be smart and clever, ie don't pay 50m for full backs that can't defend.

We've got plenty of good players, most of whom are yet to reach their prime ie 28.

However many are out of form. But so was Stones and look at him now.

They also must be bored if we are watching.

I think a change is needed and despite the new contract fully expect Pep to walk. He'll realise it's over if he can't get a tune out of this lot.

Your quite correct in saying we have many very good players but we do have many players that are seriously overrated.

I agree with your general argument, but I think the idea of players peaking at 28 is a complete myth.
Robbie Fowler was an outstanding teenage prospect but was only 27, and a fading talent when he made his debut for City. Similarly, Michael Owen was only 29 when he got United's late goal winner in our 4-3 defeat, and you could make the same case for Rooney being a far better player in his early 20s

It's not just injuries though.
In 2017-18, there was plenty of speculation that Sane, Bernardo, and Sterling were going to be the next football superstars, and possibly replace Ronaldo and Messi on the world stage.
However, just three years later, you could argue that all three players have regressed from their glittering potential

Nonsense. This season will be a transitional one. Then next season we’ll win the league.

Pep is going no where so get behind him.

I've seen enough of the following, even if some are currently out of form, to realize they are good enough for how we want to play.
Ederson
Walker
Cancelo
Stones
Días
Laporte
Bernardo
Kevin
Gundongan
Sterling
Torres
Jesus
Foden

Likewise I've seen enough of these to realize they are not what we need.

Mendy
Garcia
Rodrigo
Zinchenko
Mahrez

Dinho and Kun not included in first list as they are nearing the end of their time here. Jury out on Ake.

So as for many years we need a LB, Kun's replacement, and a mobile CM.
