Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

As angry as I am right now I would love him to sign up for another 5 years.

But however long he is here for what I really, really want right now is for the senior players like De Bruyne, Sterling, Gundo, Laporte etc to stand up to him. I want them to knock on his door and tell him how shit that was and they don't want to be put in that position again. We expect loyalty from our players yet KDB is 29 and we've just badly let him down when he's at the height of his powers. That cannot keep happening, you don't get too many opportunities at this competition and the ones we get can't be wasted against average teams.
Well, it may or may well not have already happened, but you will never know, or are you expecting public access to the dirty washing office?

With pace all over the squad, we don't get beat in my opinion.

That's what Bayern Munich have identified and are building. A squad with quick players in almost every position.

They see where football is and has been headed.
Years of identifying how to beat tiki taka has lead to the Germans moving toward pace in play.
Tiki taka (Barca) worked because they outworked the teams and outplayed them they suffocated teams
Peps Barca wipe the floor with this Liverpool and Bayern
In many ways they do same pressing but a more direct approach
It’s not the styles that are better or worse it’s the players and how they implement it

People need to get over Mancini. Loved the bloke and he served his purpose for a while but he wasn't good enough.

How can you say he wasn’t good enough? Let down by the board after our title win. Certainly couldn’t have had a worse season than Pep with this squad. Is Pep good enough?

Pep should and hopefully will sign a new deal. He got it wrong and he will take responsibility for that mess. It did show tho that he does not trust for whatever reason some players in the squad. The players have also underperformed and last night was another poor showing. Refresh of the playing staff needed which we are currently doing, no drama.

Did he get the playing staff wrong? Only obvious mistake was foden. He went with steady safe options and it backfired. Hopefully he won’t try that again with Gundo, Rodri and fern. Bernardo has been poor this season so why wld he suddenly turn it around and he does not trust stone or oto.

We nearly got away with it if sterling had of scored and ederson had not made that mistake.

Pep will be here till next season then he will go that I’m sure off . Do I want him to stay well at he moment probably no because he is so stubborn and it borders on arrogance. While pep stays so does gundo that is a gimme so no point even contemplating getting rid of him and then that is a problem for me . After last night pep should be up before the board to answer questions on why he picked that formation in our most important game for years and still after 50 mins and one goal down all our creative players are dat on the bench . Even 3-1 down and chasing we only made 2 subs I can’t fathom it . No doubt about he is one of the greatest managers of all time and we are lucky to have him but there comes a day when you look to the future and maybe he is not that .

Pep has never stayed at a club for more than 4 seasons and it might be related to his intense style of managing. 4th season at Barca wasn't good and same was at City. Maybe he has his limits and the reason to delay the extension of his contract is that he is not sure he can be as good as he wants to be. He might suffer from a burnout in some form.

I hope he stays and proves his critics wrong by slightly rebuilding the team and creating an even better team than the treble winners. And finally winning the CL. Maybe, just maybe, VAR won't interfere in a knock-out CL game next season (against us, that is).

But he is trusting the wrong players and that is a worry mate . This gundo picking needs to stop

Dunno mate, I tend to notice it more when we get beaten, but it almost seems like a stick to beat us with, to accentuate the impact of us being beaten.
It’s also used to marginalise and downplay our wins, a kind of ‘oh, well that’s no shock, they have the best squad anyway, what do you expect, let’s move on’ type narrative.

Is that what you were getting at with your question, or were you saying you also don’t think the squad is good enough, and suggesting blame re our recruitment?

Or was it both?!
Skill wise this is a much better side than Mancini's. Mentality wise not so sure. VK, DS, Yaya, even de Hong, were mentally tough.

Is it me or does pep take shit when he sticks to things and it goes wrong but also takes shit when he changes things and it goes wrong
It’s like he is a genius when it works but fucked whatever way if it goes wrong!

Very true mate. He has got stuck in a rut picking the same players and they are not up to the job. He needs to be ruthless with a few and cut them loose. It feels like he is trying to pay them back for the amazing few years we have just witnessed. Dave, gundo and fern should not have been selected. Blinded by the achievements of the past. Let the new blood in

Pep never stays at a club for more than four seasons. Never mind that is a sample size of two and he will be entering his fifth year with City (which he has always said he will fulfill).

One of Gundogan, Rodri etc is fine. 2/3 together makes us vulnerable. We all feel this but still he does it

When you do good at your job do you get praise? When you do shit do you get bollocked? I'm never sure what these kind of points try to achieve - it's the same for every footballer and manager. Guardiola is one of the greatest ever but he's not above criticism, especially when there are obvious trends.

I loved the guy, much prefer him to Pep as a man, BUT he is and was not a great manager.

I will never forget the way he stood up to Ferguson and tearing down that banner.

But he should never be compared with Pep.
