That's not really how it works though. Messi was on 5x the salary of Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets and Villa when they were undisputedly the best players in the world.

The thing about Messi is that every single player who walks on to a training ground immediately describes him as being on a completely different planet. They know how much better he is than them, more than we could ever understand.

Griezman - 880k per week
Suarez - 450k per week
De Jong - 400k per week
Busquets - 290k per week
Rakitic - 260k per week
Pique - 250k per week
Coutinho - 250k per week
Dembele 230k per week
Umtiti - 230k per week

Fucking Sergi Roberto is on 190k per week ffs. our highest paid defender Laporte is on 120k

Yeah but that's down to Barcelona's piss poor management post Neymar. It was Neymar who inflated everyone elses salaries because he's not Messi, he's human, but he was getting a salary that Suarez and co. could say, "I deserve that".

Soriano had Barcelona's finances in great shape with Messi there, and I'm sure he'd keep things OK. Remember he's only going to be here 3 years anyway, if we renewed KDB before Messi arrived (as we are rumoured to be), he'd never be negotiating another salary anyway, he'd be 34 by the time his deal ran out.

If he is ever to leave Barca now it's the time, they have a rebuild on their hands that will take 2-3 years at least until they are challenging in Europe again. Is he ready to be apart of that or maybe he feels that it's time for them to have a fresh start without him.

Only City could sign one of the greatest players of all time (Maradona for me) and have no fans there to watch him.

I suppose his commercial worth would offset the reduced crowds!!
I think the hierarchy’s obsession with the Barcelona of 10 years ago is increasingly unhealthy and counter productive. The game has moved on again and signing the ghost of Messi wont address any of the major flaws in the squad Pep and Txiki have assembled

Right now, who is the best player in the world today?

We are far to wasteful in front of goal sterling and Jesus work hard and always put a shift in but when push comes to shove when something is needed they fall short big players score that chance sterling missed we need killer in front of goal ... get Kane
I think you are being somewhat disingenuous to say they both fall short

Apart from putting chances away at crucial moments, in those games we can’t close out.

That is debatable. A 32 year old moving to a more physical league where he wouldn’t get anything like the protection from referees he enjoys in Spain could age overnight

You can tell when someone doesn't actually watch Spanish football.

Messi gets the shit kicked out of him in every game he plays in Spain, if referees treated him like normal players Barcelona would literally get 30+ free kicks a match.
