Again, you are betraying the fact you don't watch actually La Liga. Messi has played in a very similar position to KDB all season.

If anything the comparison is far too generous to KDB, and I say that as someone who loves him as a player.

These are based on Messi's heat maps under each coach he played under. You'll notice the bottom two are pretty much the same position KDB plays.

As I see it if we really want a fluid rotating front 3 very few people can really play a false 9 converted midfielders can’t because they don’t get the goals. Nobody else in the game I know of can assist, create space and score reliably like Messi can. We may only get 2 years, but what a 2 years it would be. If there is a younger version great, but who?
As unlikely as it is, if it was possible why not go for it, it could go wrong, there’s a very good chance it wouldn’t and worth the risk for me to just go and watch.
Winning trophies is brilliant ,yet nothing will match the Aguero moment for me, but Messi might produce something close.

Absolute nonsense if you think we’d sign Messi to play in a three man midfield

We definitely would, it's where he's moving here or Barcelona.

He'd take Silva's place. Or rather KDB would move over to the left of the 3 probably and Messi would be on the right.

If he left this window Barca would expect a sizeable fee plus the crazy wavy wages......So its a non starter till next year imo

Would signing a centre half be hoping it would paper over the cracks of our poor finishing? No, because that would be idiotic reasoning.

If, and it's a big if, the club wished and tried to sign Messi then it's because he fits with what they want to do.

Literally as simple as that.

Then close all threads as according to your impeccable logic no one can criticise the clubs wishes.

That's the only way I'd see it working in football terms. It would be absolutely glorious on paper but Pep would only go and drop Messi for Gundogan.

There's so many intangibles with Messi.

You get the massive commercial growth and worldwide fanbase which doesn't go away when he retires. That means more money to spend every year in perpetuity.

You get players literally throwing themselves at you to play with him.

You'd have players like Phil and the next generation learning off him every day in training. Phil talks all the time about how much he picked up off Silva by playing with him in training, seeing the things he does time and time again.

You have a fear factor in the opposition which half wins some games before you kick off and conversely a confidence boost to your side, a belief they can win anything because Messi is there.

Probably entice Pep to sign for 3 more years.

It's funny, for a while I was thinking I wanted Pep to win a CL without Messi at City, because it's annoying constantly hearing "he can't win it without Messi", but I realise that I've probably got it backwards. You'd more likely win it with Messi, and continue winning when he retired and left behind a bunch of serial winners.

Might seem a trivial point, but if Messi were to come we'd need to sell a shitload of Messi 10 shirts. So does Sergio take back 16? What about Rodri?

Aguero loves Messi so much he'd probably offer him the 10 shirt without being asked. They are incredibly close friends so I'm sure they could work it out.

Similarly I bet Rodri would take 6 or 14 or something else.

No one knows if it is 100% true but rumour is he can leave for free at the end of every season? Seems unbelievable but you never know.

It's a bloody rumour, hardly the clubs wishes.

At this point, the past decade or so, who have we signed for the sake of if it? For the absolute craic?

Well Messi would definitely solve the replacing of Silva conumdrum. He's left footed too. Quiet demeanour. Ditched his previously luscious locks.

Yeah.

Oh man, now it's Foden OR Messi? We can't have both? Definitely don't have room for the best player in the world in that case!

I think one problem is Messi, and to a point ronaldo, over 10/15 years have normalised what is far from normal. So a lot think just like any other player their form will suddenly drop off. But what he has isn’t form and even as he does tail off he will still be better than many those younger players at their peaks.

A shame Jo falls just out of the decade requirement, that was surely for fun?
