Eric Garcia to Barcelona

Should have never played. At least John Stones has said he wants to play for City. I just can not get my head around that decision.

Really?

Of all the decisions, that's the easiest one to understand.

Pep rated Garcia higher than Stones, and was more interested in winning the game than who might still be at the club next season.

It's not confusing, once you decide to play 3 at the back, you pick your 3rd best centre back alongside #1 and #2.

Reports on twitter that Garcia has been called up to the Spanish national squad. What a season he has had.

I think he's taking a risk in his career when everything seems to be working out for him however I hope it works out for him. City's academy is working only its generating players for other sides and income whereas players for our first team would be ideal.
Wouldn't be surprised if that alleged national team call was Barcelona moving in the backstage. If the board signs a player from City who's a spanish international that'd probably earn them a few more votes than signing "just" a 19 year-old center back. I'm sure Luis Enrique would comply if he was asked to do so by the Barcelona board.
I hope he doesn’t let the door smack him on the arse on the way out of the Etihad.

Ok, fuck me you like an argument

The lad is clearly being well advised by an agent looking to line his own pockets if he’s being encouraged to leave City and sign for a club in turmoil, who’ve just appointed a manager who’s faces getting his P45 before he’s got his feet under the desk. Good luck with that move lad... who knows what the future holds at Barca, but the team needs a rebuild, as much as the ground and both won’t come cheap - hence the €1.6 billion debt mountain.

You got a real handle on Enrique to think he could be pressured to do anything he didn't want to

Generally speaking though it's true that La Roja has historically preferred selecting players who have high visibility within Spain rather than elsewhere. I think, in Garcia's case, Pep prioritizing him is the seal of approval any NT trainer would take notice of

And look how well it, predictably, worked.

Two goals purely down to defensive non coordination & stupidity.

Lucky for him, he knows full well what being at Barca means

That 20m just became more solid.

Still have a gut feeling he will stay back. More down to the fact that Barca will have much bigger issues than they initially thought.

Or maybe what it used to mean... no more state hand outs, soft loans or backhanders. Barca will need to stand on their own feet financially for the first time... might not be so easy going forward.

Agreed.

Personally i thought he was our best centre back on the night, got very unlucky with the first goal after a cracking tackle.

The draw for local players, always there

Both were poor but was probably the better of the two. More senior players made more mistakes than Eric and he almost saved the first goal just got unlucky with the rebound. He got pulled out of position in the centre circle and stranded in no man’s land for the second goal though

He does indeed, but I believe he’s correct on this occasion. Take the emotional attachment away from the argument & whether you think Garcia is good enough to start for City.

To put it into a business context (which professional football is), if I tell the business I work for that I want to leave & go to another company, they have 2 options.

1- Put me on gardening leave as they don’t think my mind is in the correct place to do my job to the best of my ability or that I’m not professional enough to do so (ie don’t play Garcia)

2- Make me see out the terms of my contract as my manager still believes I’m good enough & professional enough to still be an asset for the company (ie Garcia still plays)
