Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I’m not taken in by any media, wouldn’t dream of listening to talksport as it’s pretty clear what their agenda is. I’m simply saying we need to improve next season and it’s a very big one. Another season like last with yet another failure in Europe and only 2 league titles with this squad and these resources is below what Pep should be achieving.

I don’t think saying he and us need to improve next season otherwise it takes the gloss off what has been and still can an amazing period of dominance for us. If it goes 2/2 with the scousers since Pep has been here and no European cup who’s done the better job?
Just to be clear here. You as a Manchester City fan are suggesting Klopp has done a better job than Pep?

Pep is a genius no doubt about it but his overthinking against Leon does him no favours.big crunch time for city regarding rebuilding the squad & the rebuild needs a manager who is going to commit to the club for next three years.maybe personal circumstances & a lack of hunger may leave pep with no option but to leave
You wish

Leon, the professional?

I’m a bit confused re the rumours that we’ll just let Pep run his contract down and move to a rolling 12 month contract. I understand there’s a good bond between the club Execs and Pep but, in any walk of life you need to show commitment- and it works both ways. Call me old fashioned but I’d like to see the club back Peo to the hilt in the transfer market and offer him at least a two year deal and Pep to reciprocate by signing up - how can we expect players to commit when the boss hasn’t. All clubs need stability and a strategy that runs across more than one season. I really don’t think working to an agenda of one season at a time is healthy for anyone and is fraught with difficulties.

Of course it'll sit with the club for a long time. They still talk on BT sports and sky about our gutless performance in Madrid in the semi final 5 years ago. Before the Lyon game, they were banging on about Monaco, Liverpool and Tottenham. This'll simply be tagged onto the end of their montage.
They still talk on BT - nuff said

That was your wet dream last night.

Fucking leon.

Not sure anyone could have made a worse job of that Lyon game myself
Whilst I’d agree, he did make somewhat of a Horlicks out of it, I do find it frustrating that teams rarely seem to miss chances against us but continually do against other teams. Teams missed a host of chances against Liverpool last season in the league and the season before in the CL (and its not a criticism), Lyon should have been a couple up before Munich scored, Barca could have been 3-1 up against the self same Munich, Atalanta missed a sitter to go 2-0 against PSG. We continually concede the fewest chances and seem to have a hugely disproportionately number of ‘worldies’ scored against us as well. Cornet never scores but has scored 4 against us for Lyon. Leicester right back hasn’t scored since he broke the net against us 2 seasons ago and I’m not sure that Townsend has either, since his goal of the season effort.
Not only that, but any mistake we make is often ’fatal’, think back to Southampton (another player who’d never scored before), the Lyon goals were largely self inflicted as have been many over the last few seasons.
City on the other hand squander chance after chance and that’s the bit I get frustrated by the most. It’s almost as if our players think that it doesn’t really matter as there’ll be another chance along in a minute whereas the opposition think that we’d better take anything that comes our way because there won’t be much on offer.
Pep references being much more clinical in BOTH boxes and he’s absolutely right. If we were, we would be pretty much unstoppable and I don’t think that would be the case under any other manager. As for anyone wanting him to leave, be very careful what you wish for.....

Leon the pig farmer?

Why does it have to be about Klopp being better than Pep? Both managers have done incredibly well for the their clubs in what is for both sides unpresedented success. Why therefore do we need to judge it on one is successful and the other is a failure? If Pep wins the league and CL next season, does that make Klopp a failure? No, he will still go down in liverpool history as one of their best ever managers.

Pep will go down is history as the best manager we have ever had. He has delivered the best football the PL has ever seen and set a new bar for what is considered great. Nothing should detract from that in the bigger picture.

I agree about the overthinking against Lyon, I wonder if he gets the defensive reinforcements he needs this summer if he would do the same. I suggest that he wouldn’t, the strange tactics were linked to a lack of confidence in his defence.

You say that but 2 league titles and one FA Cup is hardly that incredible with the squad and money we’ve had. Yes we’ve won the league cup plenty too but Pellers had that pretty much boxed off. Obviously I’m a big Pep fan and for 18 months we played some of the best football ever seen and broke plenty of records.

Big season coming up though as 2 titles out of 5 and more failure in Europe starts to look fairly average all things considered.

I don't get it, is this a fucking joke? Extreme sarcasm or a new brand of humour unbeknownst to most?

Yeah true, I was probably saying Klopp as so many keep saying Pep’s the best in the world and we’re lucky to have him type of thing. Good way of looking at it that they’re both great managers. Obviously not too arsed about Klopp just want Pep to get us back above them sharpish.

No, just asking questions and not seeing him as God especially after the absolute fuck up he made yet again in Europe. Very big fan of his so not getting at him but hoping he improves again next season because this one has been poor with the resources and squad we have.

The comparison would always be there, its left to Pep to shut them up.

This is a Pep thread, I am assuming its open to discussions, i find it strange how some here wouldn't allow others share their opinion regarding Pep on a thread created to talk about Pep.

Pep is a genius but its ok to talk about some of his mistakes. We recognize he is a genius and so there's a sense of disappointment when things don't get the way we expect them to, we criticize the errors not because we intend to pull the man down but because we KNOW he can do better.

Show me another manager who has a better record in the pl? Pep's breaking records every single season and that's the thing about success, its a gift and a curse all in one, the gift being the success achieved in itself, the curse being the hunger and impatience for greater things. We KNOW Pep can deliver the CL but he needs to keep it simple, stick to the basics, cut out the "obsessive compulsive" approach towards the CL and just enjoy himself, that was what he did at Barcelona and that's the only way he would get the spark back for the CL.

Wasn’t actually what I said no. Be plenty of neutrals when comparing budgets would say he has but I wouldn’t agree with them at the moment.

Can I just say that I could not give one single fuck about the CL.

The 2 PLs, the FA Cup, 3 LCs, Centurions and Treble winning season are for what I am very happy with.

The Big Boss will decide if CL is a be all and end all for us but, like many Blues, it’s not that much for many of us.

So you're okay with City getting embarrassed in a global stage ?

Take a Seat, Leon ;-).
