Eric Garcia to Barcelona

Do you think Norwich, or Villa, would have dropped their cbs, for Garcia ? Or Brighton ? Everton ? Utd ? Chelsea ? Liverpool ?
Nope. Different style of play.
Obviously you prefer their athletic style of PL defenders.

Anyway, he wasn't the key factor for our CL exit.
HE stopped his man pre 1st goal whereas our experienced players Walker, Laporte and Fern couldn't be arsed to track back.
I couldn't make out any major mistakes in contrast to most other City players. No idea what you have seen.

City and Barca and the national coach seem to see something special in him. Both clubs would love to have him no doubt as he's an extraordinary talent, still 19. I guess they know he is overcompensating his weaknesses with a variety of great strengths by far. Obviously.

The air of sentiment is so thick at Barcelona right now that their fans are desperate to bring back a midget sized CB like Eric Garcia, according to them they need t do things the "La Masia way", if Txiki and the boys bungle this one, lord knows I would go crazy! There is no better time to sell this below average utility player to the Barcelona mugs.

What happened for the first goal came about because we had changed our system and had one less in the starting press up front. Walker was marking his man and then didn't track him because presumably he thought the right CB, Ferny in this case, would came across and do so although when the ball was played Ferny was in front of Walker and was Laporte. Walker and Garcia had both dropped back behind these two and Cancelo was nowhere to be seen. Garcia stopped the original ball although, IMO, bizarrely made the tackle with his left leg rather than using his right to knock the ball out of play

I have no idea who on that day was commanding our offside play,
we would need that information to assess who did right or wrong
(keeping as well in mind it was a new system...)
but I definitely know when there is 1 player in our high line who MUST be the 1st one to track back at full speed especially when the ball is lost on his side - it's Kyle.

He is is only 19 or so and probably still growing in height. Otamendi is also under 6 feet and nobody seems to refer to him as a midget. He is obviously talented and is included in the squad for his national team.

Not when he thinks there are three behind him to cover which there should have been but there wasn't. Not sure why Ferny and Laporte were both in front of Kyle and Garcia or vice versa why they were behind the other two. Note though how easy it was for Lyon to beat our press to start with and that's because we had one less player further up front. That is what happens when you play an unfamiliar system. We might have got away with it against Villa, Brighton etc but you don't experiment in a CL quarter final. Funny how Bayern played their normal system last night although they did concede more possession to Lyon than we did and more shots overall (less on target)

When folks can't see what is wrong there, I don't know where to start tbh.

I would say that the 1st two goals v Lyon are schoolboy defending & pretty much anyone given the job of analysing it, I'm pretty sure, would agree.

Everyone I've seen so far, has slaughtered it.

Laporte was also at fault for both & has looked awful, next to Garcia, by coincidence of course.

As for Garcia's strengths, I'm told 'awareness' & 'reading the game' are the main ones, which makes it more unusual, to see those two things being heavily criticised by ex pros & him being described as an 'amateur'.

Both City & Barca think he has a big future ?

Perhaps he has. Perhaps they have done tests which show his body is devloping & that is ruining his ability.

If not, they are taking the fucking piss.

Unlikely to grow any more, unless his development was stunted at an early age. When you get to about 19yrs old, that’s as tall as you will ever be as your growth plates in the long bones of your legs and arms close up.
That said I agree that height, whilst useful, isn’t the only characteristic in a good CB, particularly in our setup.

Pace & ability to defend would also be an asset.

Pity.

Come on mate, nobody is behind Walker in a high line
and guess what Walker is best at in our team ffs.

Yep, you can train defending though and pace can be improved but not substantially.
Jury is out for me on him, if he wants to stay and realises he’s part of a squad which will be rotated then fine, but if he wants to go then he would be no great loss.

Agreed, would be more concerned if it was Laporte who wanted out and I would prefer Stones over Garcia at the moment. If he goes the club will continue to flourish, if he stays he can play his part

I agree & perhaps he can improve that sufficiently & also not be a liability in the air. I have never in my life seen a player do that from his starting point, but y never know.

But meanwhile, what the fuck is he doing, starting games for Manchester City when he wouldn't get in Newcastle's team & why are we spending time teaching him to run & defend, rather than some kid from Brazil or somewhere, who is already bigger & faster ?

The answer to that, I believe, is that we have a production line of no marks being shipped over from Barca by cronies of our senior staff & it's time that ship was blown up.

He should give Deulofeu a ring.

"I can tell you about Koeman from my personal experience, and I have very little to tell you about Koeman. He provided me absolutely nothing."

He said he wanted to go back when Setien was coach, a man who stood silently on the touchline like a grandad at an under 11 match as Barca were torn to shreds. I don't think he cares about who the manager is.

He's just an entitled little twat.
