Eric Garcia to Barcelona

He said he wanted to go back when Setien was coach, a man who stood silently on the touchline like a grandad at an under 11 match as Barca were torn to shreds. I don't think he cares about who the manager is.

He's just an entitled little twat.

He was referencing his time under him at Everton. Nothing to do with Barca.

Yeah perhaps I wasn't clear, I meant Garcia.

Garcia isn't going to care that Delofeu said Koeman is a crap manager, because Garcia decided he wanted to move to Barca when they already had a crap manager.

Unlikely to grow any more, unless his development was stunted at an early age. When you get to about 19yrs old, that’s as tall as you will ever be as your growth plates in the long bones of your legs and arms close up.
That said I agree that height, whilst useful, isn’t the only characteristic in a good CB, particularly in our setup.
OK, I thought growth extended for longer, thanks for that insight.

He does indeed, but I believe he’s correct on this occasion. Take the emotional attachment away from the argument & whether you think Garcia is good enough to start for City.

To put it into a business context (which professional football is), if I tell the business I work for that I want to leave & go to another company, they have 2 options.

1- Put me on gardening leave as they don’t think my mind is in the correct place to do my job to the best of my ability or that I’m not professional enough to do so (ie don’t play Garcia)

2- Make me see out the terms of my contract as my manager still believes I’m good enough & professional enough to still be an asset for the company (ie Garcia still plays)
to be honest not many City fans I know thought that he should of been playing, ,and I don’t think that would have been any different if he hadn’t have came out with the I want to leave line. To me and I think a lot of blues feel Pep go it spectacularly wrong. So to say it’s because he is our third best central defender doesn’t matter to me. In my opinion he shouldn’t have been playing either way.

I certainly don’t disagree about should he have played ahead of Stones for example. I was just trying to put some perspective on things, purely because some posters don’t think he should play for the sole reason he’s ‘handed in his notice’; which I find nonsensical. Pep obviously still sees him as an asset, regardless of where any of us feel he should be in the pecking order.

To give you another example, Ian Rush spent a season at Liverpool when he was already off to Juventus at the end of the season, Ronaldo Played for an extra season at United when Mr Ferguson knew he was off at the end of the season. It happens as long as the manager still sees said player as an asset.

Oh & James Milner is another one. I knew for a fact he was off to Liverpool in the January, so I’m 100% certain City also knew, but he was still played as he was still considered an important asset by Pellegrini.

Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face rings true here I think

you can’t seriously compare Eric Garcia to Ronaldo and Ian Rush.

Ha ha ha, how have you come to that conclusion from my post??

You’ve Completely missed the point.
Re read what I’ve written & try to understand the point I’m making. Nowhere at any point do I compare the players. I’m comparing the situations, which are similar.

Its not difficult mate. It doesn’t matter if you, me or anyone else thinks we have better CB’s at the club, what matters is Pep sees him as an asset, so as a professional player, at a professional club, with a professional manager, Pep is well within his rights to utilise any asset at his disposal. He clearly sees Garcia as an asset, which he is as he’s a Msnchester City player until he’s sold.

The point about Ronaldo, Rush & Milner is that this situation has happened many many times before with lots of different players at lots of different clubs, in lots of different leagues in lots of different divisions. Those were the obvious ones that popped into my head.

If you still can’t comprehend the point I’ve made, probably best to leave it there mate.

Shame to see him go

Seemed the best option at times this year, but he was standing out amongst an awful bunch. If he wants to go home, I wish him well. Hope we bring in suitable reinforcements

If he stays one more I am confident that we can convince him to stay...pity though

You come across as a tad condescending there mate.

I thought exactly that when I typed it. However, I then thought, fuck it, if that’s what you taken from my post, then being condescending is probably the right way to go.
Apologies if I’ve offended you. I hope you can understand the reasoning. Fact still remains tho however condescending the post is

It’s never the right way to go. You got your point across and I accept that and I wasnt offended, it’s your point of view and that is fine. You are right Pep can use him whilst he is here but I felt he shouldn’t have, we have more reliable players than Eric Garcia if you are going to play a three at the back, which I felt was madness, but that is another argument. All the players you mentioned In your post, them clubs would use them because they were quality, so thesy would have been cutting their noses off to spite their faces If they didn’t play them. Eric playing was a shock.

Seems like we’re both in agreement then? Other than being condescending as being the right way to go ;)

I was more shocked at the formation we played, considering how often Garcia has played post lockdown, him starting didn’t surprise me in the slightest. Rightly or wrongly, Pep clearly rates him extremely highly.

I’ll give you Clive Wilson as another example as I’m pretty sure we sold him to Chelsea mid season but kept him until the end of said season & played him continuously
