If it's a system that you have been playing all season you will know exactly how your team mates will react in most cases. In an unknown system it is indeed Russian roulette

Seeing as we have had no proper defensive partnerships all season & had a kid who gets it wrong most of the time, playing in a new back 3, I think it qualifies.
 
Did we already find an explanation why the slowest defender on earth - that's Garcia if I got that right - DID well get back and cleared the ball in a beauty of a tackle while no other City player was arsed to sprint back and help?
Were the well prepared and experienced professionals still in deep shock of a completely unknown and nearly unplayable system?

Maybe they need some more precise instructions:

Run the fuck back after losing possession.
Don't pass the ball to opponent mids in a high line.
Bury sitters in front of empty goal.
Better catch the ball and don't drop it to their striker's feet.

I was more shocked at the formation we played, considering how often Garcia has played post lockdown, him starting didn’t surprise me in the slightest. Rightly or wrongly, Pep clearly rates him extremely highly.

I’ll give you Clive Wilson as another example as I’m pretty sure we sold him to Chelsea mid season but kept him until the end of said season & played him continuously

I agree to play that formation was suicidal in a quarter final of the chumps league. The way I remember the Clive Wilson departure was that he didn’t want to leave but that City needed the money, which wasn’t a lot anyway. First I knew about it was reading it in the MEN, Peter Gardner saying £300,000 was good business , which it wasn’t as I felt he was one of our better players.

What if he was two yards faster and instead didn't need to make a last ditch sliding tackle and instead harried him to the side, allowing others to get back? Or just played a better offside line? He did well to get back, yes, but only through the prism of his own limitations. Good player, defo physical concerns though.

Clive was a great player for us, gutted when he left. His brother Gus was half decent as well.
 
A Single Defender in the box.... ONE!!!

Maybe the experienced players need the same physical limitation as Garcia... then they could help us(and Garcia) solve problems through the prism of their own limitations... instead of whatever they were doing

I'm all for it, done as part of a defensive plan when suitable.

As the only plan, it's a joke which Pep knows as he did exactly the same himself, to Manuel etc.

The offside trap, as a main system, is dead, especially in a high line.

How can you analyze that situation without dropping a single word about the rest of our defence? The youngest and most inexperienced lad is immediately reacting to the trouble ahead (with all he has even if you think it's not enough), while the others are speculating on offside - even Pep lifting his arm - and walk back. Says all about their attitude.
And more so about Eric's attitude.

How can you ask Garcia to do even better when the rest does nowt?
Should Garcia be responsible for Laporte's, Walker's and Ederson's fuckups?
 
If people have it in for someone they can find cause in anything. Some find it impossible to analyse, when they have decided someone is not to their liking.

Most goals conceded, you can find fault with more than one player when you try.
Sometimes its a system, sometimes a decision, a lack of awareness, a slip, a hesitation, a weakness on one side. Sometimes a genuine bit of class by the opposition
One thing i do know, we have various players who some posters blame whatever the circumstance.

Even if they are on the bench -)

Cheeky fuckers. Hope the club up the asking price and accept nothing less now. Fuck them, let them wait a year and suffer in turmoil... is what i'd be saying if i didn't have respect for koeman and what used to be their club. As it is, totally happy for garcia to remain part of the academy till he either goes for free to whatever mess they are in by then. Unless they pay a fair amount. of £20m+

If they think that is a serious and professional offer, then they have become even more of a joke of a club than we all care to admit. And if you consider it a serious offer, you are as deluded as the club itself.
