I would say that in general more Remainers give a shit about the UK than Leavers do. Leaver patriotism doesn't seem to extend beyond England as a general rule. I'm sure there are plenty of Brexiteers who will deny that but it's just the impression I get from quite a few on here.
Nothing to do with him being a remainer, I’m one.

Just because of his other general views.

An agreement to make goods trade easier across Europe and the immediate neighbourhood. Excludes Belarus and Russia and from 1st Jan, the UK.

Come on Johnson, pull your finger out and get that ‘oven ready Brexit‘ on the table :)

Alas, I am unlikely to enjoy the breaking up of our Union and the ending of a 300 year chapter in our history. I can see the logic in Irish unification, even if the people of Ireland on both sides of the border were content with the status quo until we knackered it up with our indifference and forced the issue.

I was content with the Indy Ref decision in 2014 and fondly imagined we were would build upon it, and the promises made during the campaign, and strengthen our Union. Unfortunately we decided to knacker that up as well with Brexit and our indifference to devolved sensibilities.

I’m unconvinced by the merits of constitutional vandalism and needlessly breaking things just because we can, but then I’m an old fashioned romantic soul at heart. I also don‘t think I’m ready to surrender my ‘British’ identity as it is currently defined. I sometimes wonder how psychologically prepared we are for that loss, the loss of the nation we were born into and which will no longer exist.

yep and more endless shite and uncertainty for years to come I am afraid .

Bit harsh...

I’m with @NSoames on the people of Cornwall now demanding the EU’s £700m after voting to leave. ‘They can f—- off in my view,’ he says.’The skies are dark with chickens coming home to roost.’ The people of Cornwall shouldn’t have been so bloody stupid when they cast their votes.’ @timwalker

Sod it, probably best suited to the Irish Politics thread...but imo, i think its relevant to this thread too. I had some pretty heavy "discussions" with people on here that i believed Brexit WOULD increases tensions over here and that a return to violence was possibly/probable/inevitable....but i got some good old stiff upper lip, blighty, theyll never defeat us bullshit thrown at me...so yeah, thankfully some have been arrested but there is definitely more to come....and as i tried to stress at the time, they will NOT stick to harrassing us over here....the "mainland" will be targetted

Six people have appeared in court charged under the Terrorism Act.
They were arrested as part of a major PSNI and MI5 investigation into dissident republican group the New IRA.
All six have been accused of belonging to a proscribed organisation and of directing terrorism.
They are also charged with being at two meetings, one in Sixmilecross in February and another in Omagh in July, with the intent of committing acts of terrorism.
A senior police officer told the court those meetings were filmed and recorded by MI5, operating under the direction of the PSNI.
Appearing in court via videolink were:
  • Sharon Jordan, 45, of Cappagh Road, Dungannon
  • Kevin Barry Murphy, 50, of Altowen Park, Coalisland
  • Amanda McCabe, 49, of Ailsbury Gardens, Lurgan
  • Gary Hayden, 48, of Tyrconnell Street, Londonderry
  • Joseph Patrick Barr, 32, of Cecilia's Walk, Londonderry
  • Damien Joseph McLaughlin, 44, of Kilmascally Road, in Dungannon,
Mr McLaughlin is also charged with conspiracy to possess explosives including a quantity of Semtex and conspiracy to possess 100 rounds of ammunition.
Defence lawyers alleged there was entrapment and claimed in court that one man who has has not been charged was operating as an undercover agent for MI5.
All six were remanded in custody.
Operation Arbacia is targeting the New IRA, which is considered to be the largest dissident republican group and has been behind numerous attempted attacks on police officers.
Journalist Lyra McKee was shot dead by a New IRA gunman while observing a riot in Derry on 18 April 2019.
So far, 10 people have been arrested as part of the investigation.
On Saturday, two men, one from Lurgan and the other from Derry, appeared in court.
On Monday afternoon, a 49-year-old man from the Dungannon area was charged with offences including membership of a proscribed organisation, directing terrorism and two separate charges of preparatory acts of terrorism.
He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
A 10th person, who was detained at Heathrow Airport on Saturday, is still being questioned.
'Longer-term investigation'
On Monday afternoon, the PSNI said Operation Arbacia will continue into the longer term.
Assistant Chief Constable Barbara Gray told a press conference that the operation "did not start last week, nor will it end this week".
She added: "It is a longer-term investigation which will look into every aspect of the activities of the New IRA in its entirety."

I would like this post, but I don’t. Add it this to my list of ‘shit things that are likely to happen.’

Yes it’s the Sun, but Gutteridge is a good journo.

‘EU negotiators have concluded UK consolidated text is ‘unrealistic’ and doesn’t justify moving to text-based talks. They reckon UK will try to ‘trade off’ fishing for LPF at last minute and have urged EU states to stay ‘cold blooded’ as the deadline looms.’

Gutteridge also tweeted this:

‘EU negotiators have also rejected a British offer to prevent freight backlogs at busy ports after Brexit, reveals the superlative @Barnes_Joe. (Last week the UK tabled a new paper with proposals on roll on/roll off operations at ports).‘

If only somebody had warned us this might happen.

they were too busy lying - sorry , telling - us about how there would be no border for Ulster and it will all be tickety boo that they got a bit distracted just about voided the GFA that they had no idea that terrorism was still a thing.........

Given that the referendum was nearly 5 years a go / 2 governments a go, are people still happy to go ahead especially when you factor in the impact of Covid and not many deals have been struck?

5 years is a long time, a lot can happen so surely now we have a better view of what the prospect looks like we should have a final referendum?
Yes - totally happy

and the issues that have happened since - especially with regards to the pandemic, but also many other factors - certainly reaffirm the importance of getting away from and being free of EU controls

Just as one example - even the consideration of the impact of the latest MFF on the UK had we still been in the EU is a frightening prospect - and one that Remainers on here run and hide from

Yep, welcome to becoming a citizen of our new country.
Kingdom of Great Britain (KGB) if Scotland stays.
Or Federation of Southern Britain (FSB) if Scotland departs and Wales gets additional autonomy.
Vlad will be delighted.
Wider still and wider...
