Chairman Khaldoon Year End Review

He uses the word important too much. I know Mancini said things like "important injuries" but in a scripted interview you would think he would use more important English.

"Me and pep have something important in common".

It's not a question of his gravity or class, it's the same formula, same questions, same answers mate.

I've no issue with it but its is hardly groundbreaking or exciting any longer.

Long may he continue indeed because my point is nothing other than opinion on these interviews now.
You got a socially distanced interview this year!
I Do know where you are coming from. I just don’t think there is that much with the ‘ annual review ‘ format they can do thats new.

cage fighting between our beloved chairman and gill or cerefin probably ain’t happening irrespective of how many of us would like to see it.

I think generally similar themes get covered. The one year the ffp/uefa question is off the table, i'll rejoice.

The differnce, for me however is mood. Last year on the back of our domestic sweep, it was all positive and excited. The transfer question said limited improvements needed/planned, which maybe needs kept in mind for the next really successful season. I.e it just might not be enough, and coming off a trophy haul still needs improvements.

This year there is obvious disappointment, which isn't something that i find is usually made a point of. What i do find encouraging is the undertone of 'we are in this together, pep is as disappointed as i am, pep and i have hating losing in common' etc. Stating the bloody obvious, i know, but when the media and sadly many fans look to spin that as failure and hang the manager by the balls, it shows a level of context and perspective, and no blame pointed.

He also reminds us of the difficulties this season, the uefa distraction, changes in management, covid etc etc. Not making excuses, just a reminder they do see the bigger picture. Which we collectively sometimes seem to choose not to.
You make good points. Although the format of the thing is similar, the controlled disappointment was new. Let’s hope it’s back to controlled celebration at the end of next season.

I’m in agreement that it’s pretty much the same thing each year. Talks incredibly well and I could listen to him all day, that’s probably what makes it so popular. In terms of actual substance there is never that much to take from them. He’s never going to come out saying next season isn’t important, we are signing no one and will just plod on. It’s basically like a player interview, nothing.

I agree. we won the Cas battle so they know we can and will take further action if they misbehave.
They still control the media and rules but must contend with debt as a bigger problem now that income streams have evaporated.
Never will be a level playing field but let's see which business plan survives.

Interestingly said he thought CAS and Uefa had been a distraction to the team.
I really think the negative impact of this UEFA battle has been underestimated. It will have caused damage to confidence across the whole organisation. There would have been delays on recruitment, new contracts, and uncertainity for the players' futures. If we had lost jobs would have been axed at all levels. When you combine it with worries over Covid it must have been a huge negative.
You often hear the old cliche that players are unaffected by what happens in the boardroom. But most City fans know that is false because we suffered decades of off-the-pitch upheavals which almost always transmitted problems onto the pitch.

How's your Arabic?

I doubt his expensive US education was in Arabic was it? Plus he is chairman of an English speaking club, so for a prepared interview anyone would expect better. I honestly think it is dumbed down for the audience and is quite patronising.

I remember my regular visits to hospital over the last 40 years.
I found my interviews with doctors full of technical jargon that I had to have explained to me, consultants used more practical terms but if it was a Professer I saw it was so understandable spoken almost totally in layman's English.

I wonder why that was so,,?
Maybe he patronised me but certainly he communicated.

My consultant is the same, always very clear.
"So, basically, you're fucked. See you next month, if you're still alive."

Given the conciliatory tone and non-aggresive stance taken by Khaldoon I hope people can finally see why we never have and never will engage in a 'war' with the media. It's sad really because all the tripe that's hurled our way is never going to stop and never going to be tackled by the club, but hey, that's how they roll.
I think most people see how smart our chairman and management is.

As much as I would love to see certain sections of the anti City mafia taken down a peg or two and I’ve stated numerous times, that drives me as much as the football.

However I do admit that our chairman is perhaps smart enough to realise that going to war with the media is a war you cannot win.

I think those who sponsor us or seek to buy equity look at financial figures..
Not saying the UK media are irrelevant but our owners include both Chinese and USA based Companies that synergies with our objectives.
I look forward to their Input especially the US media proposed build and its effect on East Manchester.
