Reading the overnight news it seems like every journalist with a good rep at Barca is convinced its us.

Now I guess we just sit back and enjoy a few crazy days and hope he doesnt back out when he sees the carnage it is going to cause. There's a lot of internal politics to go on, maybe some legal dispute over the clause.

If we get him for free...

Thing is at the moment Barcelona could get a player or 2 and a bit of money piss Messi off come end of next season Barcelona will get nowt zilch and have a unhappy player for a season be better for them to try and do a deal.

What's your vibe on City trying to ease the situation? You think they'd be willing to just pay a modest fee to get it done quickly? Seems like Barca has already been putting that energy out there. You see a middle ground that could be met? Something like 80m or you think City will just let it play out?

Just tell them we'll do a player swap, one Argentinean for another.

I'm sure Otamendi wouldn't mind going back to Spain.

I think the optics of getting him on a free would really offset the inevitable outpouring of outrage and vitriol from our competitors when people report hes being paid £1m a week. Which is quite important IMO. Sign Messi on a free and you can just point and laugh at Chelsea's £300m window if anyone questions the spending. Also with Koulibaly, a Lb and maybe Aouar happening it might have consequences for building the team around Messi if we have to spend a fee.

Also if Pep and Txiki want to not be seen like PSG were, stealing away Neymar like thieves in the night, him leaving on a free puts 100% of the blame on Bartomeu and the board, and doesn't let them play the card of "the sheikh made us an offer no one could refuse".

Win win for city
If he stays we keep jesus
If he goes psg city could get mbappe or neymar
Were in the driving seat

Neymar we will stay well clear of - he is a party boy that doesnt fit our profile - more of a utd type of player (think Pogba)

Mbappe has already clearly turned us down and doesnt want to come here - his next stop is someone like Madrid

Id wager we will NEVER se Mbappe in a city shirt

It appears that way. He's probably the greatest ever and remains a wonderful, wonderful player but this will be a circus from start to finish and not my bag. Come quickly, quietly and play your ass off, setting an example to all the young players at the club.
Only been 12 hours mate, it’ll happen fairly quickly if it does I reckon

Agreed - only if they exchange shirts after the final whistle? ;-)
How highly do you rate Mbappe? He’s an incredible striker but he’s a level below Messi & Ronaldo isn’t he? In fact I’d say probably a level below Neymar, having watched him this summer.

What happens if Barca refuse to accept that Messi has triggered his release clause legally?

If they dig their heals in and say "Nope... He's still a Barca player" then I presume he can't actually sign for us (or anyone) until it's sorted out in the courts?

For one they will piss of Messi and then lose him for nowt zero end of this season while now they could negotiate a bit of a fee and maybe a player or 2 it’s a massive gamble for them if Messi is serious about leaving.

Apparently Messi and his dad/agent spoke to UEFA prior to handing in the transfer request to check their legal position.

It certainly doesn't seem like Messi would go nuclear without checking to see if he could really leave, but I guess its not impossible.

Maybe the clubs could arrange a fee of say €100-150m subject to a legal challenge. Messi gets to leave so Barcelona arent holding him hostage, the new club gets him and the courts can decide over a few months who is in the right?

cos UEFA always get it right on matters on arbitration...

Sky are fucking shitting themselves at the thought of Messi joining City

It was too much for one day... trying to orchestrate a Harry is innocent campaign is hard enough but now they’ll have to start convincing us that Messi is no match for Fernandez!

They have quite a long record on contract disputes at CAS and win almost every single one.

Remember CAS side with the authoritative body 90% of the time, just because our win was in the 10%, doesn't mean the general trend has changed.
