He’s not as good as he ever was when you look at his stats. However he’s still better than everyone else which tells you how good he was/ still is.

His current numbers are like combining the output of DeBruyne and Aguero into a single player, but we’d still have both of those available, so we’d be in quite a nice position.

For what it’s worth I think if he comes he’ll play mostly as a 9 to not disrupt the pressing and to make use of his passing when dropping deep.

He’ll be a game changer both on and off the pitch.

I agree with what you’ve said, and he’s exactly the player we could’ve done with in games where we needed that little bit of magic. Games where teams held on last season, with a player like him I think it would be too much for them. I watched them in a game last year where they were losing 1 nil and the opposition crammed in front of there goal. It looked like they would lose and Messi scores an absolute worldy to equalise and then another to put them ahead, and then added a third. Every goal was top class.

Also, re his goal scoring stats dropping off a bit, do you not think that’s because of the players he’s playing with? Without the likes of Inesta, Xavi and Dani Alvez, who are three of the highest assist makers in La Liga history teeing him up. His own assists are pretty similar to what they've always been for years, it’s only his goals that have dropped off a bit (however still very impressive).
