Tolmie can I ask?
Whilst accepting the Messi xfer situ is treated as a priority by Txixi etc, and you have stated that due to this, KK and Pep situ has been delayed.
Where are we with other potential signings?

Are we in for a left back still? Because surely if Zinchenko isn't good enough and Angelino could be part of a deal for Messi that leaves us with one semi-competent left back

I wouldn't give 2 shits how it looks to others with the way City have been treated for the last few years

Well maybe we should. It’s hardly gonna be better if we continue not caring about appearances. I know it’s easy to tell fans of other clubs to simply fck off when we spend but it’s not really helping.

I believe it’s obvious the club is doing everything they can to wash off that perception of a club just spending unlimited amounts, and not caring about the consequences. Otherwise there would have been no negotiations for Torres, Koulibaly or anyone else. The club has the money to just pay up but choose not too.

Stones was a very overpriced defender of 55m and now everything indicates he’s 4th or even 5th in the pecking order. I think the club is aware that spending 350-400m on defenders in the last four years is a bit over the edge, so for that reason I believe Angelino, Zinchenko, Stones and Otamendi all will be sold, to fund the transfers of Koulibaly and perhaps a leftback.

I would be very surprised if Stones stayed. Two more years on his contract and it doesn’t seem the club will extend. Cash in now.

Just imagine this squad depth next season. Mind-blowing.

That would be fantastic but we really really need Koulibaly (& preferably a left back!) or a.n. other, if our back half is to be worthy of our front half.

Having said that, we can afford more fuckups with that much attacking strength & I recon Stones will shape up better next season, if allowed to stay.

But still, not signing a couple of defenders, for a side like that, is like sending out a formula one car with a slow puncture.

They owe it to that team, to be strong in all areas.

Stone 55m thought it was 50m

Yes, though think we'll see a lot of Ake at left back as long as Laporte stays fit.

50 m

Imagine the unveiling, a la Apple & Steve Jobs keynote speeches.

Interviewer: 'Now that you've signed the contract, Welcome! Messi to Manchester City, congratulations!'
Messi: Thankyou, I'm so, so happy to be here.
Interviewer: 'Heh, you sound very like Pep! Any further comment to make?'
Messi: Well there is one more thing...

<Pep comes into camera shot, Pep sits down, smiles, pulls out a City headed contract and pen, signs his contract and winks>

This would be closer to what I expect, should we sign Messi

This won't work in my opinion.

Look at the heat map of every Messi game in his entrie career and its always going to be dominated by him playing inside right. Whether he plays as a false 9 or RW or normal number 10 which Argentina tried, hes going to find himself in the space between KdB and Mahrez on your pitch.

If he goes in midfied he has to be on the right and KDB will have to adapt. Which isn't impossible.

But then Mahrez will spend all game standing 3 feet from Messi just watching.

If Messi is in midfield, you want pacey runners ahead of him, not Mahrez who comes short and checks back into the same spaces.

I dont think we are going to tell Messi he has to massively change his game. We will try to put him into our starting lineup as easily as possible and IMO that means him replacing the RW position occupied by Mahrez/Bernardo all last season.
